In all that surprise that has meant that certain Sony terminals can continue to receive updates to Android Lollipop when almost two and a half years have passed since they were launched, yesterday Sony began to deploy Android Lollipop 5.1.1 for several of its old terminals in the Xperia Z range.
Precisely the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR and Xperia Tablet Z are chosen to receive this new update to Android Lollipop 5.1.1 which among some new features are volume control improvements and the silent mode, new integration with LinkedIn and what would be an improvement in the stability and performance of the terminal's general behavior.
Before the Z1 range
Android Lollipop 5.1.1 is already reaching users of some of the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR and Xperia Tablet Z phones in OTA form, even before the owners of a Z1, something that surprises and that can leave us a little perplexed by the way the Japanese manufacturer he is behaving with his clients, since it is appreciated that this version can be accessed for some two and a half year old terminals.
The novelties go for one new integration to LinkedIn with a more intuitive way of calendar synchronization, improvements to the control of alerts, silent mode and volume, and what would be an improved performance in general terms.
Nothing is said about the battery, but it was one of the handicaps with the previous Android Lollipop 5.0.2 in which many users found the duration of it reduced.
Sony proving its worth
After updating an Xperia Z and receiving these news, there are also some details such as the solution found for recent apps that passes from that "Close all apps" box to an icon that replaces it and it's not that rough.
Now a icon to control sound settings as is the multimedia, alarms and ringtone. The other option is in the silent mode where we can better configure the exceptions to even access all its parameters from the cogwheel.
The only thing left to see is how the battery behaves, but until the passage of a few days it is difficult to verify this. What can be seen is an improvement in the performance of the phone, something that several users are already reporting and which means a higher quality user experience in every way.
Another pleasant surprise while it is assumed that this series of phones will also receive, at least the Xperia Z, Android 6.0 Marshmallow, although we will leave this as a rumor until we see the update appear as an OTA as this time. Another day to thank Sony and congratulate you on this way of supporting your users. Quite a great way to ensure that many decide on another Sony when they want to replace theirs.
What a misfortune that android one has almost to beg for a new os to come out, I spend 2 years with the same system and only for now Samsung to come out with the blowjob that will no longer have support for the New M what a misfortune with that They want to force one to continue buying new phones
There are manufacturers that do behave well, and if not, you can always opt for a Nexus to receive all the updates for at least 2 years.
news like this cheers you up, obsolescence no longer stayed in the 2 years
The truth is that it is
I'm from Costa Rica, I have a released Xperia Z (C6603) ... but even so my phone is still with version 4.4.4 🙁
I have not received anything from the update via OTA or through the application ... Will I have to do something additional?
Hello, I am from Costa Rica and my Xperia Z is super great with Android 5.0 and I already want to see how it goes with 5.1.1 and if Sony updates it to Android 6.0 they leave me with my mouth open and more and more super happy with my Xperia Z, in itself, has been worth every colon invested in the purchase of my Xperia Z.
Hello KEVGEAR2005… Did you do something special to update the cell phone? Mine does not belong to any provider (ICE, Claro, etc) but even so I have not received anything x OTA or x the companion app .. Pura vida.
Updates are great, but it bothers me that sony's android 5.1.1 still has very few options in the slide-out status bar.
For me sony is the giant that competes in everything from a toaster to an airplane haha.
I have an Original Xperia Z C6606 from ÇT-Mobile, I updated it from 4.3 to 5.0.1 (through FT) and today it is as C6603, a few days ago I noticed the update to Android 5.1.1, but at the time UPDATE gives me an ERROR, do you know why it is ..? Will I have to do the same process through FT ..?
I will appreciate your answers.
Greetings from El Salvador…
