Qualcomm is currently working on its next high-end processor, the Snapdragon 845, which will arrive later this year to replace the Snapdragon 835 and power the next generation of high-end phones, including the Galaxy S9, the LG G7 and others.
Although there are still not many details on the technical specifications of the Snapdragon 845, it was recently discovered that the new processor will feature the Snapdragon X20 LTE modem, capable of delivering download speeds of up to 1.2 Gbps.
This information comes directly from LinkedIn profile of one of Qualcomm's engineers, who assures that the company is working on a Snapdragon 845 SoC that will come equipped with the Snapdragon X20 LTE modem.
The Snapdragon X20 LTE modem was first announced in February of this year and features a Category 18 LTE modem capable of download speeds of up to 1.2 Gbps.

Aside from Gigabit speeds, the Snapdragon X20 will also deliver some upload speeds of 150 Mbps through a technology that allows aggregation of two 20 MHz bands. Like the Snapdragon 835 and the upcoming Snapdragon 845, the X20 LTE modem will also be manufactured using the 10nm FinFET process, although some assured that it would be a 7nm chip.
According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon X20 was manufactured with support for 5G networksalthough these networks will probably not be available for a few years. On the other hand, the company has already supplied some samples of its new modem to device manufacturers for testing.
The Snapdragon 845 processor could debut in January 2018. Until then, Qualcomm is also believed to be simultaneously working on the Snapdragon 836 processor, an upgraded edition of the Snapdragon 835 that will come built into the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.
