Project Latte is the key for us to have Android apps in Windows 10

Project Latte

We already met a few days ago there is a possibility that soon we will have Android apps on Windows, and it is now that we know what it is Project Latte is the initiative that is giving life to such option; And the truth is that it would be extremely interesting to be able to use Android apps.

If we already have in our hand how well Microsoft and Samsung, and Android are getting along, with that connection to Windows what is giving a lot of play to even be able to launch Android apps from a PC With version 10 of the OS, that it is extended n the possibilities is great news for those of us who work mostly with Android.

So you could use Android apps in Windows 10 natively

Apps in Windows 10

Today we have more details of how everything is going to work with those Android apps that we could find both in Windows and in the Microsoft Store; Although we do not like this last possibility so much because we have to use an outlook or hotmail account to access the apps in the Windows store, since there are still many of us who prefer to use a local account and that's it.

Internally, this Microsoft project is known as Latte, and it would be the one that allows app developers to bring Bring your apps from Android to Windows 10 to life with hardly any code changes. Which would be a great advantage and would not consume or spend too many resources in bringing those Android apps to the OS. We already know that bugs appear in each operating system, and not all studios or developers are in the business of increasing expenses.

The developers would be responsible for uploading their apps through the Microsoft Store with a package named as MSIX. The project itself will run Windows Subsystem by Lynus (WSL), although Microsoft will need to provide its own Android subsystem for the apps to work.

The handicap of Google Play Services

La importance of Google Play Services is greater for many applications; That they tell it but to Huawei and where it has had to navigate in recent years. And it is because of what they have mentioned today, Project Latte does not offer support for Google Play Services, so the apps that require the Play Services API will have to be updated before they are uploaded to work on a Windows PC. 10.

In other words, these apps without Google Play Services would not work the same and would impoverish the user experience to even not have push notifications (those that come directly to our mobile). From the looks of it the apps would need to be recompiled for x86 unless it is Microsoft itself that implements some compatibility layer that allows emulation.

Surely Microsoft will offer some solution, since being able to use the Android apps on a PC would benefit too much to owners of a Windows 10 computer. And we can currently launch Android apps through a PC with the Your Phone app, although this service is currently only limited to Samsung users. I already we showed a couple of months ago how such a possibility works in a video and the truth that greatly improves the experience from a PC.

If Microsoft already offers support for multiple app platforms, including PWA, UWP, Win32 and Linux, the sole possibility of including Android apps would turn Windows into a true universal operating system.

From what we understand or know today, Microsoft's Project Latte to be announced next year and it could be released in the fall of 2021 as a Windows 10 release. It would certainly be a bombshell.
