NVIDIA Tablet Shield K1

While we are looking at the new version of Android N with some envy at not being able to install it on our devices yet, the most affordable tablet from NVIDIA, the Shield Tablet K1 finally receives Android 6.0.1 which includes some notable features such as the Vulkan API.

It was a while ago when I mentioned that the Vulkan API for 3D was included in the second preview of Android N. It is in this Android 6.0.1 update for NVIDIA Shield Tablet K1 that includes that special API for 3D and a large number of bug fixes that improve the performance of these devices from the well-known manufacturer of PC graphics cards.

Vulkan has been named as the great replacement for OpenGL and thus offer applications with great performance at all levels, especially in games. Now, after the Shield console was updated with this API in February, so that this tablet receives its share and is thus prepared for better games.

Firmware version 1.1 also includes certain changes seen in Android 6.0.1, such as a correction for "no knurling" function and double pressing the home button to launch the camera app. Android 6.0 security patches are integrated since the February update and support for Doze mode.

For the part that is up to NVIDIA, it releases some device-specific fixes such as the support for MIDI over USB. Other notable fixes are the fix to the Wi-Fi issue "waking up" in sleep mode, the ability to move apps to the SD card, and the Gamepad Mapper.

All in all, a nice update for this one tablet intended for gaming on Android and that with the influence that the Vulkan API supposes, it prepares itself to be able to receive those new video games that leave us astonished at their quality.
