Huawei's MatePad T8 in-depth: everything this super affordable tablet has to offer

Huawei MatePad T8

Huawei is back, and it does so with a new smart tablet, which is named MatePad T8. This was presented a couple of days ago As the new alternative of the Chinese manufacturer for the budget segment, it comes with a super economical price tag that, without a doubt, makes it a very attractive and supportive purchase option with the pocket.

This, having a very low price, has some characteristics and technical specifications quite cut. Therefore, the value for money is very good and balanced.

Huawei MatePad T8: features and specifications

We will start talking about the design of this new tablet, which is not especially different from the one already proposed as a standard in the market. Huawei has not wanted to apply a necessarily interesting aesthetic in this model, something that we understand perfectly for the price with which it has been launched, which we detail below. The firm, with the MatePad T8, raises pronounced bezels that hold the 8-inch screen and a single color option, which is no other than Deepsea Blue (Blue).

The rear panel of this device is not shiny or protected by some kind of glass. Instead, it is matte and only houses a main rear camera that is located in the upper left corner without the presence of an accompanying LED flash. Of course, a physical fingerprint reader is scarce in this terminal, something common in tablets.

The edges of the MatePad T8 are curved and smooth, while the corners are well smoothed. Its construction is ergonomic, but it does not stand out as such.

Now, The IPS LCD screen boasts of an 8-inch diagonal, a figure that is common in tablets. This has a resolution of 800 x 1.200 pixels (HD) and a density of 189 dpi, figures that are somewhat poor, especially the latter. The definition offered by the panel, while good, is not the best, but this is understood in this case by the range to which the MatePad T8 is aimed. In turn, the tablet offers a screen-to-body ratio of around 80%, which is supported, in part, by 4.9mm thick side margins.

At the performance level, we find a Mediatek MT8768 chipset which includes four Cortex-A53 cores at 2.0 GHz of clock refresh rate and another four Cortex-A53 cores at 1.5 GHz. The graphics processor - also more commonly known as GPU - is the IMG G38320 650. All this is paired with a 2 GB RAM and internal storage that can be 16 or 32 GB and is expandable via microSD up to 512 GB. The latter leaves us with two purchase versions of the MatePad T8.

Regarding the cameras, the rear is 5 MP, somewhat poor resolution, to tell the truth. This sensor is put to order along with another 2 MP front shooter on the front for selfies, video calls and facial recognition. The latter features an f / 2.4 aperture.

The MatePad T8 tablet also comes with a 5,100 mAh capacity battery which promises an autonomy of up to 12 hours of video playback, according to what the manufacturer claims. It also comes with support for 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, microUSB 2.0, USB OTG, and a 3.5mm audio jack. The dimensions are given as 199,7 x 121,1mm and the weight of this is 310 grams.

No Google mobile services

This is, perhaps, its most negative point. Huawei has not implemented Google mobile services on this device, so the Google apps will not be pre-installed on this device.

Price and Availability

Huawei's new MatePad T8 has a starting price of 500 Romanian leu (~ 100 euros or 112 euros at the exchange rate). Sales of the tablet will begin in Romania later this month, but it is possible that they will spread to Europe soon after. However, the latter is something that we will have to confirm later, since the company has not revealed anything about it.
