Xiaomi POCO M3 analysis: is it worth it with its specifications?

Today we bring you a very special review and also highly anticipated. We have been very fortunate to be able to test the Xiaomi poco m3. All of us who have some knowledge of today's smartphone we remember the emergence of the Poco Phone F1 in the market.

Almost from nowhere, an unknown device managed to get everyone's attention. Even today the F1 is still present among the recommendations of mid-range smartphones that  offer a good balance between performance and price. But new members of the Poco family are arriving to make a niche among the most important, and here the Poco M3 fits perfectly.

POCO, a firm without complexes

Since that launch in 2018, the firm has evolved to, like Redmi did, officially separate from Xiaomi as an “independent” brand. And with the fame that precedes a firm that with its first device managed to shake the market, and the security that this fact provides, another great device arrives, the Poco M3.

After the explosive launch of the Poco X3 with which this firm has managed to scratch followers in the highest area of the market. With the M3, Little has the firm intention of also getting a good slice of the mid-range pie. As we always say, the formula It is as simple as it is difficult to achieve: Good product at a good price.

The Poco M3 is called to become a true best seller during 2021. With just under four months on the market has managed to exhaust the stock of available on several occasions in all avenues of sales. Certainly a clear sign that is sweeping sales and may continue to do so in the coming months. If this smartphone is just what you were looking for, you can now get your POCO M3 on Gshopper at the best price.

Unboxing the Poco M3

As we always like to do, it is the time to open the box and check everything we find inside. As is normal, we do not find no surprise nor anything that is exceptional. But having said that, we have elements that many begin to discard and some other important extras that we always appreciate.

We found the device itself, which although as we have said has a large battery, less heavy than many other phones with smaller batteries. We also find the data cable and load, in this case with format USB Type C. And the Power Charger, an accessory that for some manufacturers is no longer essential.

As an important extra we have a flexible silicone sleeve It fits like a glove with the phone. It is a detail to have the first accessory that we always need for a new smartphone from the start. Otherwise, Quick Start Guide and the classics warranty related documents.

This is the Poco M3

En Androidsis we always stand out as a virtue originality and the daring in the design of any device. At present it is certainly difficult to differentiate yourself from the rest. But with enough intention it is possible to create a product that is not like the rest. The Poco M3 is different and that is something positive and much appreciated.

The first that attracts attention From the physical aspect the Poco M3 when holding it in your hands is her rear. The way a triple camera module, about which we will talk in detail later, it is integrated in the upper part is the least striking. A great rectangle with different color and different material that is located horizontally in its upper part. You may like it more or less, but it is original and it looks great.

On the rear too we have to highlight the materials used. It is becoming increasingly clear to us that the choice of plastic IS a success. With a rough finish that is non-slip, the Poco M3 is very pleasant to the touch. IMHO, a lot better than shiny backs with polished finishes that end up being a swatch of prints.

Plastic is back in fashion, yes, with a much more up-to-date presentation and with better-made alloys. In addition to gain a lot in grip, especially with without the silicone case, rthe bumps and possible scratches are much better.

In lateral the same texture and materials are preserved, and the screen integrates precisely with no edges or sharp edges to disturb or deteriorate. Looking at the sides, we see how it has been chosen fingerprint reader side. A location that other manufacturers ended up scrapping, but for which others like Sony continue to bet with good results.

Above the fingerprint reader, which also serves as home button if we press, we find the volume controls with an elongated button.

In the upper part is the 3.5 jack plug for headphones. The left side only has the slot with tray for the cards. Emphasize that it is a triple tray in which we can simultaneously insert two SIM cards and a Micro SD memory card. In the lower part we find, from left to right, the microphone, charging connector gift format USB Type C, and its only speaker.

The Poco M3 screen

This is one of the most powerful sections of this device. The Poco M3 screen manages to make it stand out from the rest of the mid-range mobiles. We found a more than generous 6,53-inch size in a panel IPS Which offers a Full HD Plus resolution And 60 Hz refresh rate. Something difficult to find in phones that are located in the same price range.

As a general rule, when we look for a mid-range device that is around one hundred and fifty euros, we know that we must give up certain things. One of the main ones is the screen that is usually smaller and above all lower resolution. Here the M3 arrives stomping with the intention of offer a much more exclusive user experience, and if it has already convinced you, click here and get yours at the best price.

La aspect ratio 19.5:9 shows the dimensions of its panel and makes it ideal to enjoy videos and multimedia content in a comfortable way. It has a 395 pixels per inch density (dpi). Without a doubt, a screen that makes it a very enjoyable smartphone. And this, in addition to making a difference, makes it shine in such a complicated sector.

The Poco M3 screen has a device front panel occupancy reaching 83% of the same. A good relationship that is achieved in large part by the type of notch used. We have a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 glass protection levelIt is not the latest standard of protection, but it will make it stand up to some drops and scratches well.

The solution to “hide” the front camera in the least abrupt way has been by means of a drop type notch. We can say of this type of notch that it is fashionable. Although we have liked the so-called holes on the screen much more. One of the drawbacks that we can put to the screen is that its shine is not up to the rest and on very clear occasions it has been difficult for us to read the screen clearly.

What's inside the Poco M3?

We focus on what the Poco M3 carries inside. It's time to tell you what this striking smartphone is equipped with in order to get an idea of what it is capable of offering. To vitaminize the M3 we found a chip known as the Qualcomm Snap Dragon 662. Processor trusted by manufacturers like Oppo, Motorola, Nokia, Realme or even Xiaomi itself for the Redmi 9.

We found a Octa Core CPU with 4 cores working at 2.0 GHz and the other 4 at 1.8 GHz. The graphics section is covered with a GPU also Qualcomm, the Adreno 610. We can play without problems any of our favorite games without definition problems and with very sharp graphics.

The Poco M3 has two versions of memory RAM, on this occasion, the device we have been testing has 4 GB, although there is a more powerful version with 6 GB. The capacity of storage is 64 GB, and in the same way, there is a version with the capacity to 128 GB. We also have the possibility of expanding the memory using a Micro SD card.

The Poco M3's camera

If we have previously commented that the screen is one of its strengths, we cannot say the same about its camera. Perhaps we had much higher expectations. Although we have to take into account at all times that the Poco M3 belongs to the mid-range and has a price that competes with devices of the most basic range.

That said, the M3 camera does not end up doing a bad job, as below we can check with some samples of photographs taken. Not only does he defend himself well, it is also capable of offering very worthy catches with a high level of detail and good color information. The eye-catching still camera module features a triple lens where each one has different specifications and a well-defined function.

For main lens Little has had a sensor Samsung S5KGM1 type Isocell, with resolution of 48 megapixel and opening 1.79 focal. La second of the lenses has a Omnivision sensor OV02B10 type CMOS with focal aperture of 2.4. Has a resolution of 2 megapixel and takes care of portrait mode to perfectly achieve the effect of depth. The third of the lenses has a sensor Hynix HI-259 also type CMOS, with identical focal aperture and with the same resolution of 2 megapixel. This sensor is responsible for capturing macro details.

For selfie camera front, we find a Omnivision OV8856 type CMOS sensor, in this case with resolution of 8 megapixel and opening 2.0 focal. Perfect camera and resolution for good quality video calls or selfies photos.

We can affirm, without fear of being wrong, that the Poco M3 has a very decent camera section. Above all, as we have already commented, taking into account the price range in which it moves. So that combining several of its most powerful aspects, the Poco M3 can become an unbeatable device. If the POCO M3 has already convinced you, don't wait any longer and buy yours here with a 15% discount.

Examples of photos taken with the M3

To have a more realistic idea of how the camera works, we have gone out to put it to the test and here we leave you a small sample of the captures made.

In this picture, we can appreciate in all its splendor what the M3 camera is capable of offering. As usually happens with the cameras of any device, offer their best in good natural light in open environments. But in this photo we really appreciate the colors, forms elements in the foreground, even zooming in.

It is also inevitable that in the farthest area some noise begins to be noticed and the lines get a little confused. Something that is also influenced by the elements photographed.

Here we can appreciate, in a indoor photo, as well as the different shades and colors they reproduce faithfully. We effortlessly notice the different textures and you also get a good definition.

In this detail capture, it is also displayed very clearly the detail in textures and materials. Better definition obtained thanks to better lighting. Definitely, good level of sharpness on the central object.

Here we put the POCO M3 camera digital zoom. It is a landscape photograph that takes up a lot of space, and is broadly a good quality photograph.

With all the zoom applied, unsurprisingly, a lot of resolution is lost and the pixels appear. It manages to get objects close, but the use of a photograph with this level of distortion is unlikely.

Camera app

We have always liked MIUI's own camera application. Even though visually it is somewhat sober and not very showy, in practice it is very simple to use and effective. We find all the settings we may need and even some extras for the more advanced ones with customizable settings.

We have various photography modes Among which stands out the portrait mode capable of taking really good captures. One detail to keep in mind is that if we want the camera to bring out its most powerful weapons and the photos obtain the maximum quality we will have to manually select the 48MP option.

For videos we have Time-lapse animation and with slow motion. Both options offer good results. We even have the possibility to carry out panoramic photos or a way to scan documents.

What we cannot stop commenting on is that the camera It has made us a bit slow when processing the photographs. Between one capture and another it seems that the phone needs a few seconds for the sensor to be available again. Something that seems perfectly solve you based on software in future updates.

Powerful battery and autonomy to spare

Here the makers of Poco have once again managed to make the M3 stand out from the rest. The battery of our devices has been almost always the weakest point. It is normal that with so many sensors, large screens, and prolonged use, the autonomy of current devices has stagnated.

The Poco M3 has managed to break two barriers in the battery and autonomy section. It seems that smartphones had an imaginary cap in terms of battery charge and there are no terminals that have such a high charge.

The Poco M3 features an incredible 6.000 mAh battery. And furthermore, with an autonomy that goes beyond the two full days of duration. Quite an achievement since sometimes we have seen phones with a good battery charge that is not directly proportional to its duration. You notice a good energy efficiency work to stretch its massive battery to the maximum.

It should be noted, especially when we talk about great battery, that this It does not affect whether the device is heavy, nor does it have an excessive thickness. By all accounts it is the most normal in this sense. But let's remember, with autonomy for more than two full days!

Another point in favor of the battery is that has fast charging. An interesting detail that will allow us to have 100% of our battery charge in less time than expected. Especially considering that Poco also includes a fast-charging charger in the box of the M3.

Security and connectivity

In this section we have to talk about fingerprint reader. As we mentioned at the beginning, what stands out in the first place is its location. We have tested devices with the fingerprint reader on one side and we have seen how it does not always work. Accuracy and size have a lot to do with here, and we have to recognize that this case has been effective.

As an extra security, the POCO M3 also incorporates the possibility of using the front camera for unlocking through facial recognition. We have also tested some devices that boasted facial unlocking and have been in functionality much further than this has been.

For connectivity we find Bluetooth 5.0. But we have to talk about both great absences; NFC and 5G. It is normal that a device in this price range does not have 5G, but not having NFC limits its possibilities a bit. Also noteworthy is the implementation by Xiaomi of the successful customization layer MIUI in version 12. Something that gives the device very good presence, but it seems that do not finish flowing naturally than usual.

Pros and cons

It is time to tell you, from a personal point of view, what we liked the most about Poco M3 and things that still have room for improvement. All this while repeating that it is very important to keep in mind that we are talking about a mid-range device that barely exceeds € 150 and offers very rare features.

Pros

La screen It is undoubtedly one of the great protagonists of the Poco M3. Highlights his resolution, size 6.53 and 60 Hz.

La 6000 mAh battery and the incredible autonomy that offers of more than two days of use.

El price The Poco M3 makes it very easy to decide on a smartphone when you have a limited budget, it has no competition.

El design of this device also deserves to be among the "pros". Because of how well the plastic has been used without the product appearing of inferior quality, just the opposite.

Pros

  • Screen
  • Battery
  • Price
  • Integrated

Cons

An absence that we consider important, the Poco M3 does not have NFC, something that we have missed.

La photo camera app It doesn't measure up to the rest when it comes to running speed. When taking photos we noticed a small lac in the processing of the images.

El Brightness of the screen not up to scratch in bright conditions.

We miss 5G, as we could say of any recent smartphone, but once again we have to know what price range we are in.

Cons

  • Non-NFC
  • Camera App
  • Screen brightness
  • # 5G
