Xiaomi will implement a function that allows the use of the on-screen fingerprint reader to directly and quickly open any application. This will do it in the new Xiaomi Mi 9 and Mi 9 SE.
The brand's newly introduced flagship pair will get this useful feature via a new update starting this week. The MIUI update that the Chinese giant is going to roll out on its last two high-end devices will allow everyone to simply touch the fingerprint reader area to open custom shortcuts.
To use the function, user will need to long press on-screen fingerprint reader. After that, a menu with various shortcuts will appear and the user will have to swipe the desired app or function to open it. In addition to opening applications, the new fingerprint shortcut function can also be used to invoke the Xiao AI voice assistant, to open the mobile payment screen, and much more. Besides the Xiaomi Mi 9 and Mi 9 SE, the function will be available even on other Xiaomi devices, but only those equipped with an on-screen fingerprint reader: the Mi 8 Pro was already confirmed a few days ago, and the feature will probably soon land even on the Mi 8 Explorer Edition, which is the first Xiaomi phone in the world with a reader fingerprint on pressure sensitive screen. It could also be on the Mi 9 Transparent Edition.
The update for the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE and Mi 9 SE too will bring some camera improvements to both phones- There will be a new 48 MP camera mode, a wide-angle mode with flash support, and much more.
Last but not least, the update brings new security patches. To check if it is running on your unit, you can go to the Settings menu and check the Information about your device section, then click on Software updates.
