The camera of the Xiaomi Mi 6 annoys users with an offensive function

Xiaomi Mi 6

For reasons that are difficult to understand, the Xiaomi Mi 6 tries to guess your gender and age when you try to take a selfie. If it hadn't been offensive, this feature could have been fun.

Most smartphone manufacturers try to incorporate special functions that allow them to differentiate themselves from their competitors. This is a very old practice but it has become much more evident in recent years, when modern mobiles stopped being revolutionary in terms of their designs, to focus only on their internal functions.

The problem arises when the new features do not always generate considerable benefits for users, and even more when some functions can be offensive to mobile owners.

This is precisely what has happened recently with the Xiaomi Mi 6, the latest flagship of the Chinese company that brings a powerful combination of hardware and design, coupled with a very competitive price.

Launched in April of this year, the new Xiaomi Mi 6 has a 5.15 inch and inside it houses a processor Snapdragon 835 along with 6GB of RAM. At the rear we find two 12-megapixel cameras, while fans of selfies will have to settle for its 8-megapixel front camera.

The problem I mentioned above is caused by a selfie feature powered by a complex artificial intelligence algorithm. When trying to take a selfie, the camera app will also tell you your age and gender.

In a period in which they are trying to introduce new notions regarding the rights of LGBTQ people, there is nothing more offensive than a mobile that defines you without emotions as a man or a woman. And it doesn't even do a good job of guessing age.

In the case of one of the editors of The Verge, whose age is 26 years old, the Xiaomi Mi 6 told him that his appearance is that of a person of 24, 27, 40 and 29 years old, depending on various factors that are not very clear. The presence of glasses, according to the mobile app, has aged it extremely. Why did Xiaomi imagine that this function would be successful?

Xiaomi's camera app has been incorporating this function for centuries ... it's a MIUI thing, not MI6.

People can tell that they have no problems in the lives of real people, that they invent them, and now it stresses them that an app gives them gender and age, which can be easily deactivated in the settings menu.

It also includes geopositioning, which can also be deactivated, surely that whoever protests about it, did not realize it but would also complain.

That is what in psychology they call distorted thoughts, that person instead of assuming their problems plugs it in to others in this case to Xiaomi.

That functionality was already brought by the camera of the xiaomi mi max with miui 7. It is not something new. I do not understand the fuss over something that both xiaomi and other devices with miui have been using for a long time.

All the xiaomi bring it, that function is nothing new I had a mi4 and I had it, if you contrast well what you put, that you screw up very from time to time you go with delayed effect

As discussed above, it is an old function that the rest of xiaomi terminals already incorporate before.

I don't know where the problem is, people are too bored to treat this as a problem instead of laughing, which is how I and my friends took it. It is clear that there are no ideas to write articles

Totally agree, I think it is a function created to make a laugh and as those of us who have a Xiaomi from miui 7 know, this function can be deactivated.
I think the writer of this article should read a bit and inform himself, I think the only one who has been angry has been himself.
What a waste of time that has been reading this.

It is a function that is in the official camera of miui8. I have a redmi 4 pro and it has it too. I believe that giving importance to such a trivial and trivial thing is typical of people who have no other things to do, other than to attract attention. There are people who get bored a lot.

I am more annoyed with these types of stupid publications that do not contribute anything. They only get notes to the wey to get

You can remove that tag function and that's it. What the fuck problem?

How can you tell that you have tried many Xiaomi if you say that this is new when Xiaomi has been incorporating it into their mobiles for centuries, if I am not mistaken since the last update on MIU7 before MI8 came out.
    A bit of journalistic rigor

The truth is that it works very well. Most of the time he nails it, and if you don't have a laugh when your 27-year-old colleague says he is 48 years old and his girlfriend says he's a man.

Of course, reading this article has been a waste of time. If what you wanted was to tell us the news that the Xiaomi Mi6 brings, you could have done that, without inventing pompous titles. Do you want to be a blogger? Very good, but you should dig a little into the subject of the article, I say. Then there is someone who does not know (or does not work on this as I do) and believes it, unfortunately.

This function is sooo old in Miui, it is not new or exclusive to Mi6 and indeed, it tries to guess your gender, not your sexual preference, which is sooo different ...

It would not be bad for you to inform yourself before writing an article

    What a PENOUS article
Just look for visits ... what the internet is becoming ... More and more PENOUS content.
Not even the slightest bit has been reported…. This has been with MIUI V2 for at least 7 years and it says that it is new from the Mi6 ... oh my ... Al carrer!

Elvis Bucatariu, seeing that you have more than 180 articles made... that's what I tell you. More criteria. You can't (or rather shouldn't) pick and drop this kind of thing like that without cross-checking the information. What's more, what kind of article is this? If you can call it an article. For what is this? What drives you…or what drives you? Androidsis to put out things like this? This should consist of a medium that provides readers with knowledge about the technology that surrounds us, from the advances that can be highlighted about a certain model to the situation in which a company like Xiaomi finds itself. But this fact that many people have been offended by a function that has been in MIUI for a long time... basically leaves me almost speechless. This simply doesn't give us anything beyond the fact that you haven't done enough research. At most this reminds us, once again, that society as a whole usually has these inconsistencies, because come on...feel bad about a function that is in its infancy until it is perfected, (if that is Xiaomi's intention). I don't know very well what they will demand of you Androidsis, but I already tell you that this cannot be. We have to start taking readers' time a little more seriously. You have to respect the reader a little more.

    Hi guys,

Certainly, I was overlooked that the feature was not new. But as can be seen from the source I have added, the Xiaomi Mi 6 has popularized it even more, as well as bringing it more negative reviews, so it seemed like an interesting topic to discuss.

Thanks for your comments and suggestions. I will keep them in mind for the future.

    Regards!

Thank you very much for the response Elvis, thank goodness I finally see that initiative. Until now, for all the pages we had visited apart from Androidsis, we had been worried that the articles were falling into triviality and abandonment, we hope that this is just a lapse. I also apologize for my cloned comment, it didn't appear as sent the first time and I thought it had been deleted.

Dear Elvis Bucatariu, I respect the diversity of opinions or the freedom of expression when writing a "news".
How many users have you consulted to write "annoys users"?
This in my country is said to sell smoke! , invite something and enlarge it to get attention. In this case it has had that effect, the article had many comments, but beyond being something positive, friend, you lose credibility as an "informant".
You made me disappointed by writing something so lightly and generalizing it as something from all Mi 6 users.
You would have written "tips to disable gender and age recognition" and explain how to do it in case you don't like it.
Surely you were going to receive more thanks than criticism ...
    Bye bye.
