What's happening with Google Play Edition smartphones?

Google Play Editions

Surely you've heard of them many times, because currently seeing them, at least in Spain, was quite difficult. Those that were presented at the time as the top-of-the-range devices of the main manufacturers with an almost pure Android user interface and were sold on Google Play were no longer available in our country, but they were still sold on the American Google Play . But now it turns out that the store has also mysteriously disappeared a few models of the considered part of the Google Play Edition. What is happening with these terminals? Does it smell like new top-of-the-range models or strategic changes on the part of the search engine? Let's analyze it today in Androidsis.

To begin with, we summarize which have been those models of Google Play Edition smartphones that can no longer be purchased even in the Google store in the US, which was where they were mainly in stock. These would be Xperia Z Ultra, LG G Pad 8.3 and HTC One M7. This means that the range that is still available is considerably reduced since we could only have the HTC One M8, Motorola Moto G and Samsung Galaxy S4 models. And obviously the lack of explanations along with the surprising way of removing them from availability has already given rise to a lot of talk and rumors about what could be happening with the Google Play Edition range multiply.

Although there are many hypotheses that are handled about the strange disappearance of the Google Play Edition devices in the American store, it is true that not all are equally credible. From my point of view, and at least from everything I have read in various places on the subject, it seems to me that the most feasible options to explain this event are fundamentally two, and both have possibilities. I mean goodbye to the Google Play Edition to say hello to Android Silver; or in the case of new launches without changing anything but the most up-to-date models of smartphones in the current range. Which one do you think makes the most sense?

Upcoming Android Silver presentation

Maybe a few days ago this thesis seemed the less feasible of the two. In fact, it should be remembered that until recently we thought that Android Silver would replace the Nexus range. However, when confirming that there will be a Nexus 6, that proposal is ruled out and it makes new sense that the top of the range join Android Silver. And if we take a look at those that were part of the devices available within Google Play Edition, they correspond perfectly with what would fit in the new release.

In particular, I would opt one hundred percent for this thesis. But the rumor of a new version of the latest top-of-the-range Samsung in a version Google Play Edition makes me subtract about 10 percentage points of credibility. Thus, I would say that there is a 90% chance that what we know today as Google version terminals will disappear, or rather, that they will change their name.

Question of upcoming releases Google Play Edition

As I explained in the previous paragraph, the many rumors that are jumping to the fore about a particular Samsung Galaxy S5 in Google Play Edition version are the ones that make me doubt that Android Silver is ready. That, and the fact that there are supposed to be no launches of the type until 2015. Can manufacturers wait that long? Or rather we will see the latest version of this Google range closed with a Samsung S5? Or could it be that Google advanced the launch of Android Silver and whoever leaked the information still did not know what it would be under that new name? It gives me that we will know soon.
