The UMIDIGI F3 is the latest bet of the Chinese firm, which hits the market strong with a device capable of stabilizing in the mid-range. A manufacturer who Since 2.012 it has provided economical devices with basic features, which continues to work to grow, and the F3 is a clear example of this.

A basic capable of much

When we look at the basic range, and considering the prices in which we can find a device, the level of demand drops a lot. UMIDIGI has moved comfortably for years between this type of smartphones, but with the F3 it has decided to make the leap to a more demanding range of devices.

Faced with a voracious market in which competition is as great as it is abundant, standing out is not an easy task. That is why UMIDIGI has decided to risk with a well-equipped device and capable of standing out among many others from the most basic range, providing a balanced smartphone in almost all its aspects. We look physically in detail at this basic smartphone, but it has a really cool looking. On its front we find a screen good size with 6.7 inch diagonal and that arrives with protection Gorilla Glass 4. The screen reaches a occupation of the front panel of the 82%. At the top there is a small hole type notch for the front camera.

In the lower part is the loading port, which arrives in the format USB Type C, it seems that this format is finally consolidated once and for all even in the most humble smartphones. In addition, we find on the one hand the microphone, and on the other side the single speaker with which the UMIDIGI F3 has.

At Right side find the physical buttons, specifically three. From top to bottom, we have two buttons for volume control. At the top of the UMIDIGI F3 we find the 3.5 jack port for headphone connection. A port that we have always defended, but that over time seems to make less and less sense. Are you one of those who still uses wired headphones?

In the back, made of plastic, on which we find on printed the manufacturer logo and its claim “BEYOND DREAMS”, highlights the photo camera module. We find three lenses and one LED flash located so that it inevitably reminds us of the iPhone camera module 11 and 12, although with a configuration that has nothing to do with them.

The screen of the UMIDIGI F3

To begin to go into detail about each of the aspects that make up the UMIDIGI F3 is It is essential to bear in mind that its price is around €200. With this point clear, we can talk about its limitations, but without implying any criticism of them.  The UMIDIGI F3 is equipped with a 6.3 inch LCD IPS screen manufactured by Sharp.

It has a resolution of 720 x 1.650 pixels HD+ with an average density of 269 pixels per inch. And one relationship of aspect of 21:9. Screen of 2.5D rounded glass with shock and scratch protection Corning Gorilla Glass 4. Although not highlighted, it defends itself in terms of resolution, but we could find that in full sunlight the brightness falls short.

What does the UMIDIGI F3 have inside?

Now it's time to tell you what this UMIDIGI F3 comes equipped with to be clear about how far it can interest us for everyday use. As we have been counting, we are before a rather basic terminal, especially considering the price at which we can get hold of it, but it does not stop being a 100% functional phone in any aspect.

The UMIDIGI F3 has a very prolific processor in entry-level smartphones, the MediaTek Helio P70. Firms such as Motorola, Oppo or realme have opted for it in several of their models, since although it is a 2.019 chip, still in top shape. a CPU Octa Core at 12 nanometers, with 4x with Cortex, A73 2.1 GHz + 4x Cortex. With clock frequency to 2.1 GHz and architecture of 64 bits.

We have a memory 8 GB RAM, and with a capacity of storage really generous that part of the 128 GB, which we can expand using a Micro SD memory card. In the graphic section, we find the GPU ARM Mali-G72 MP3 900MHz, which behaves well.

As we can see, a humble team, without being able to highlight any aspect above the rest. But that meets perfectly for everyday use and is capable of performing any task. you can buy your UMIDIGI F3 on Amazon without shipping costs.

The camera of the UMIDIGI F3

It is time to talk about photography, and what the UMIDIGI F3 is capable of offering us in this section. As we have commented in the description of the terminal, the photo camera module has reminded us a lot of the format that the iPhone 11 and 12 had. Although this one has one more lens, their location is clearly "inspired" by a design that is a winning horse.

We have a main lens which offers a resolution of 48 Mpxa CMOS type sensor with 1.8 focal aperture. We have another lens, for wide angle, with a resolution of 8 Mpx, and with a focal aperture of 2.2. And finally, the third Macro lens, with 5MP resolution and focal aperture of 2.4.

Altogether a complete camera able to defend itself well in good light conditions, but as usual, it suffers a lot when the lighting is not so good. In the same camera module there is also a double LED flash which perfectly fulfills its function.

As characteristics to highlight of this set of photo cameras, we can point out the HDR format. Based on some good software work from the developers, the camera has ISO settings, autofocus, face detection, exposure compensation and white balance adjustment. We also have geotagging, panoramic photography, 8x digital zoom or self-timer, but not with video stabilization.

La frontal camera, which as we say is hidden by a drop-type notch, has a 16MP resolution and focal aperture of 2.2. Without a doubt, enough quality to be able to make decent video calls, or that our selfies look as we can expect.

Photos taken with the UMIDIGI F3

It is time to show you some photographs that we have been able to take with the UMIDIGI F3 camera. We go outside and do some catches of different types so that a "normal" user can get an idea of the photographic equipment that we will have with this device.

As is almost always the case, with a relatively current camera, photos taken on a day with good natural light are quite good. Although if we go into detail, as is logical, we can find some perfectly assumable shortcomings. In fact, it is advisable to view the photos on the computer, since given the "short" resolution of the screen, we will be able to appreciate the details much better. As we have mentioned before, it is important to be clear about the price level where the UMIDIGI F3 moves.

In this shot, in full afternoon light, we see good definition and also a good level of sharpness. With the sky, the lens is not capable of displaying the truest color. But overall it's an acceptable photograph.

In this photograph we have obtained a very good result. we see how the textures are perfectly appreciated of food and different shades of brown colors.

El portrait effect also seems to be at a good level. Bill trimming is accurate even with the difficulty of a little backlighting. And the definition of the foreground object has 100% realistic colors. It has convinced us much more than other cameras with more powerful sensors that we have been able to test.

As we have commented, the results of the photo camera seen in the terminal itself do not look fully. This is due to a poor resolution of the screen that does not allow the maximum potential of this photographic equipment to be seen. By passing the photos to the computer we have been able to see how they gain a lot in colors, sharpness and resolution. And we remember that the captures made with worse light conditions see their quality greatly diminished.

Autonomy and extras of the UMIDIGI F3

La autonomy that a device is capable of offering remains an important detail to keep in mind for many buyers. Having the certainty that a smartphone will be able to withstand our daily rhythm is essential, above other benefits, for a large part of users.

The UMIDIGI F3 arrives equipped with a Lithium polymer battery with a capacity of 5.150 mAh.  A battery that could hold 2 full days of "life", depending on the intensity with which we use it, and even more than 3 days with little use. We have 18W fast charge, and also with wireless charging, although at a lower speed.

An important detail pFor those who need two phone numbers simultaneously is that the F3 has dual sim 4G. Although if we want to add a memory card we will have to do without one of the SIMs for reasons of space. Interesting alternative to consider for many users.

El security section it is also satisfactorily covered. We have a fingerprint reader on the side button home that performs a fast and correct reading. We have to say that the fingerprint recognition in this location has improved a lot. And although at first it did not like it, over time it is becoming habitual.

In addition to the fingerprint reader, the UMIDIGI has a face detection software that we can activate to unlock the device. But as the manufacturer indicates, it is a basic facial unlocking, not an advanced face mapping system, something that, although it has worked well for us, does not convince us.

We liked a lot the configurable button, since it manages to facilitate direct access to functions or Apps. Also, we can assign various functions if we make a press, two presses or a long press. Thus, a single button is used for up to 3 direct accesses, and with a really fast response.

Pros and Cons of the UMIDIGI F3

It's time to tell you the details that we liked the most about this smartphone. and for it it is important to remember again that we are dealing with an entry-level terminal, that your price is around 200 euros, and that its features can perfectly compete with a mid-range device.

Therefore, taking these considerations into account, the general conclusions are satisfactory. We can say that the UMIDIGI F3, with the logical limitations of its range and all that this entails, it is a functional smartphone for any routine task, but without being able to demand excellent performance.

Pros

El 6.7 inch screen size it is excellent for consuming multimedia content.

El configurable button It is very useful since we can assign up to 3 different commands simultaneously.

El design I like it for its simplicity, and perhaps also for a very recognizable “inspiration”.

La autonomy it's a big plus, with up to 3 full days with moderate use.

Pros

  • Screen
  • configurable button

  • Battery

Cons

La Screen resolution makes a good size not enough, a shame because it could have been an important point to stand out from the competition.
