Although they have some things in common, There are several major differences between the Galaxy S8 Plus and the Galaxy S7 Edge. The most important change has to do with the size of the screen, since Samsung went from using a screen of 5.5 inches on the S7 Edge to an impressive 6.2-inch screen on the S8 Plus.
Best of all, although the S8 Plus has a larger screen, its overall size isn't much larger compared to the size of the S7 Edge. But this is mainly because Samsung minimized the device's frames, eliminating the physical Home button at the bottom and your logo at the top, leaving room only for the screen.
Another novelty is related to the processor, since the Galaxy S7 Edge has the Snapdragon 820, while the S8 Plus incorporates the Snapdragon 835. It should also be noted that in some territories, including Europe, the company's flagship could be marketed with the octa-core Exynos 8895 SoC, which offers similar performance to the SD835.
In terms of connectivity, the S8 Plus comes with several important new features, such as the Bluetooth 5.0 standard, which improves speed and coverage and allows users to stream audio to two headphones or speakers simultaneously. In the meantime, Galaxy S7 Edge settles for Bluetooth 4.2 LE, and although it is somewhat less powerful, it offers the same sound quality as the new standard.
Also, both the S8 Plus and S7 Edge arrive with the resistance certification IP68 (Submersible in water at 1.5 meters deep for 30 minutes), they have fast charging, wireless charging, headphone jacks and dual band AC WiFi. Nevertheless, the S8 Plus incorporates a USB-C port, while its predecessor a microUSB 2.0 connector.
The other specifications are more or less identical, as can be seen in the comparison table. The Galaxy S8 Plus has a 3500mAh battery vs 3600mAh battery in S7 Edge, although the latter surely offers greater autonomy thanks to its lower resolution screen. On the other hand, both devices provide the same amount of RAM, 4GB.
Finally, it should be noted that both terminals have the same 12-megapixel rear camera with Dual-Pixel autofocus, f / 1.7 aperture and optical image stabilization, while on the front we see an 8 megapixel camera with iris scanner on the S8 Plus, versus the 5 megapixel sensor on the S7 Edge.
Many will wonder which is the best option between the two. And I think that before choosing one or the other you should first see what your priorities are. If you are most interested in battery and usage time, the S7 Edge will probably give you greater autonomy, but if screen size and performance are paramount for your activities, the S8 Plus could be a more appropriate choice. What's more, we can't overlook either that the S8 Plus has benefits like the virtual assistant Bixby or support for Samsung Dex, a device that can turn mobile phones into a kind of desktop computers.
On the other hand, you should also take into account the enormous price difference between the two terminals, of approximately 300 euros, which could be decisive after all before making a decision.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus is already in pre-sale through Amazon with an official price of 909 euros.
