Why am I not going to exchange my Galaxy S7 Edge for the new Galaxy S8

Galaxy S7 Edge and Galaxy S8 Plus

After countless leaks and rumors, Samsung finally officially launched its new flagships yesterday, the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus. Judging from people's first reactions, it looks like the new S8 will register record sales for the company, although I personally I want to keep my S7 edge for at least one more year. And I want to share with you my reasons, because it could also help you make a better choice if you are looking for a new smartphone or if you have doubts about whether or not to update to the new version.

Main similarities between the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S7 Edge

Galaxy S8 vs. Galaxy S7 Edge

Although the Galaxy S8 brings several improvements, some of the technical specifications remain the same to those of the Galaxy S7. For example, RAM is still 4GB in all four models, while the S8's battery has almost the same capacity as the S7.

Specifically, both the standard Galaxy S7 and S8 have 3.000 mAh batteriesWhile the S7 Edge and S8 Plus have 3.600mAh and 3.500mAh batteries, respectively. The differences are minimalAlthough the S7 Edge will provide greater autonomy considering that the hardware is less powerful and the screen is slightly smaller.

Other similarities are in their rear cameras, as in all models we find the same resolution of 12 megapixels with the same 1 / 2.5 ”sensor. Mind you, the Galaxy S8 received improvements for the front camera, which now has an 8-megapixel sensor compared to the 5-megapixel sensor of the S7.

In addition, all S7 and S8 models carry IP68 certifications (submersible in water for 30 minutes at 1.5 meters depth), headphone jack and fingerprint sensors.

Galaxy S8 features that aren't on the Galaxy S7 Edge

Galaxy S7 Edge and Galaxy S8 Plus

In spite of everything, I have to admit that the screen of the Galaxy S8 is much more spectacular than that of the S7 Edge, above all because there are hardly any frames at the bottom and top, while the Home button was merged with the screen and the Samsung logo is no longer present.

Another detail to highlight is that standard storage space was increased from 32GB to 64GB, plus the S8 also debuts with Samsung's new artificial intelligence, known as Bixby. On the other hand, this virtual assistant will not be available at the moment in Europe, and we do not know if it will reach the older models in the range.

Among other things, The Galaxy S8 is the first Samsung device to feature the Snapdragon 835 processor eight-core, although if you live in Europe you will probably only find Galaxy S8 with the processor Exynos 8895 from Samsung, whose performance is similar to the Qualcomm chip.

And finally, the Galaxy S8 also brings a iris scanner, Bluetooth 5.0, USB-C port and the DeX accessory, which is a small device/dock that can turn your smartphone into a desktop computer. However, Samsung DEX will have to be purchased separately.

What I like most about the Galaxy S8

The design is probably what attracts me the most to the Galaxy S8 at this time. The S7 Edge does not look bad, and I found it a very elegant device in its day, but looking at the S8 I feel that my current mobile is a bit old. In any case, Samsung deserves all the appreciation for the efforts it makes every year so that its mobiles have the most innovative design possible, something Apple has been ignoring in recent years, although that could change this fall with the iPhone 8.

Another thing that attracts me right now about the Galaxy S8 are all promotions offered by Samsung for people to reserve or buy their new mobiles in the coming months. In case you didn't know, each Galaxy S8 will come with a couple of Harman AKG headphones valued at $ 99. In addition, many stores or telephone operators could give away a Gear VR helmet with controller and Oculus packWhile others might give away 256GB microSD cards or other accessories.

All these offers and promotions are no longer available for the Galaxy S7Although currently you can get an S7 Edge for about 300 euros less than its original price.

Conclusion

No matter how excellent the design of the Galaxy S8 is or how many promotions it brings at the moment, autonomy is still my biggest concern, and the S8 does not present great improvements in this regard. Also, the rear camera and RAM are basically the same and the photos would not be more spectacular than they already are with the S7 or S7 Edge.

Clearly, the Galaxy S7 and S8 are very different devices, but for me there are not enough improvements to leave my current phone. If I had a Galaxy S6 or another mobile, surely I would have already reserved the S8 until now.

If you are looking for a new smartphone and you don't know if you should buy the Galaxy S8 or the Galaxy S7, everything will depend on your needs. The Galaxy S8 will cost you a bit more, but it will last you longer (more updates, updated components, etc.), plus it comes with many more free accessories with previous reservations. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S7 promotions will be practically nil for the near future, but its price could soon reach half the price of the S8.

If you would like to pre-order the Galaxy S8, you can do it right now from THIS LINK.

As always, I would like to know what are your opinions compared to the new Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus. And if you have any questions regarding the performance of the new terminals, do not hesitate to also leave them in the comment section.

I insist, that I do not like at all that they have removed the physical buttons to include them on the screen, in the style of Huawei and Xperia ... That is precisely why, I never want another Huawei, if I want a large screen, I do not want them to take away part of this one with the navigation buttons… The rest is excellent .. Who could buy one hehehe, although surely I would spend it complaining about the navigation buttons hahaha

I have waited years for Samgung to remove the physical cores from the front and for them to be virtual, to decide to buy one. They have already achieved it now I have to manage to buy it one day: ´v hahaha

I am the owner of an S7 Edge, and due to the characteristics that the new S8 presents, it does not convince me to make the change, I rely on two characteristics, the first of which is that I would have to change to the S8 Plus to match, since if not I would lose autonomy, something for my primary and with which I am very happy with the S7 Edge, on the other hand the increase in size, I consider the S7Edge already large enough for my needs, and well, something that I do not like at all is the location of the fingerprint sensor, since I often look at my mobile when it is leaning on the table, without losing security in it. Very badly placed this sensor, and that makes it an accessory, I suppose that Samsung wants to enhance other types of security locks such as the facial or retina scanner. As for design, it seems magnificent, but not defining to make the change of my terminal. There was much more jump between the S6 Edge or plus and the S7 edge.

I think the same. I'm not going to trade my S7 edge just for slight improvements; yes, the design is spectacular, but they have the same amount of ram and rear camera. Even the batteries have deteriorated which is the main factor for not seeing them so attractive. Samsung has played it safe, but I think it is a step back because there are already phones that have 5.5 ″ and 4000mah and not even the S8 plus reaches that amount. The fingerprint reader on the back does not bother me because facial recognition from what I have seen is very fast. Everything is excellent in this S8, except for the issue of batteries where, no matter how efficient its processor, screen and ram are, they are still 5.8 ″ and 6.2 ″, 2K +, which has to withstand 3000mah and 3500mah. Here's the biggest disappointment and it reminds me of what was seen on the S6s. Pity. This could have been 3800mah for the S8 and 4200mah for the plus; these figures if they had been significant. I, for my part, continue with my S7 edge.
