Many users have reported that the front camera of the Samsung Galaxy S10 can only be used in cropped mode, rather than the full field of view that the lens is capable of when using a third-party camera app.
This "problem" seems to apply to all three devices in the Galaxy S10 series, which is comprised of the Galaxy S10e, S10 and S10 +.
The Galaxy S10 has a wide-angle lens for the front camera on all three devices. However, the main camera app always opens in a cropped mode (6 MP), providing a field of view similar to that of other manufacturers' selfie cameras. As an added feature, users can choose to switch to the full field of view of the lens and thus the full 10 MP resolution of the camera sensor.
However, it appears that the camera API provided by Samsung allows third-party apps, such as social media and video calling apps, to only use the cropped mode of the front sensor.
We are still not sure what the reason is, but in the past we have seen mobiles with dual front cameras that allow only one of them to be used by third-party applications, so perhaps it is an inherent limitation of Android and not something else.
If this is the case, Samsung probably won't be able to fix it through a software update. Even so, we are attentive to any response that the brand may be offering regarding this misfortune. For now, a workaround for some of the apps is to first take the photo in the main camera app and then import it into the app of your choice from Gallery.
