We have been hearing rumors about Overheating problems that Qualcomm's flagship processor is experiencing. Apparently the Snapdragon 810 does not dissipate heat properly when reaching certain clock speeds and has caused Samsung considers leaving aside the manufacturer and betting on its own Exynos processors.
There have also been rumors about the possibility that Qualcomm is working on an improved and exclusive version of the 810 that would go to Samsung, which LG was not too happy about. Well now we bring very interesting new information: Qualcomm has recognized that a big customer won't use their SoC on their next flagship. Will it be Samsung and its Samsung Galaxy S6 ?.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 will use an Exynos processor
And it is that the processor manufacturer has presented its financial results corresponding to the first fiscal quarter of this year, with revenues reaching two billion dollars.
So far everything normal, but things change when Qualcomm states that it has had to lower its forecasts because "Our upcoming snapdragon 810 processor will not be in a major customer's next design cycle for their flagship device."
Which manufacturer will you refer to? Taking into account that the LG G Flex 2 integrates this processor and that Xiaomi has done the same with its Mi Note Pro, so it would be very strange if these companies did not use Qualcomm's flagship SoC in their flagships. In this way we would have 3 large manufacturers: HTC, Sony and Samsung.
But taking into account the controversy that has arisen over the last few weeks and the fact that Samsung is the only manufacturer of the remaining three with the capacity to manufacture its own processors, it is clear that Samsung is going to use its own Exynos 7420 processor in the Samsung Galaxy S6.
Una big loss for Qualcomm that you lose one of your best customers. But not so much for Samsung. The latest benchmarks for its Exynos 7420 processor show that the Korean manufacturer's processor has nothing to envy Qualcomm.
The only but is that they take too long to release the code of their SoCs and therefore the ROMS with processors Exynos they take longer to arrive. Hopefully Samsung changes in this regard so that the developer community can work the same with its processor.
