Panasonic has disappeared from the European market of smartphones for almost a year, but it is back with a different type of Android device, a "Smart" landline phone for home using Google's mobile operating system.
The Panasonic KX.PRX120 incorporates a base and a terminal based on the DECT wireless standard, a system created with a domestic and business purpose that works as if it were a GSM cellular device.
It works with Android 4.0 Ice Cream SandwichIt has a 3.5-inch HVGA screen with a resolution of 480 × 320, although the specifications given do not show what type of processor or RAM it has.
Aside from the ability to make calls, the new Panasonic device has Wifi, Bluetooth and GPS, a 0.3 megapixel front camera for video calls, microSD and a 1450 mAh battery. It also has a 40 minute answering machine.
Android and DECT phones have been seen, such as the Archos 35 Smart Home Phone launched last year, but what Panasonic offers is a bit over the top, not to mention an improved visual appearance. The Google Play certification and the use of a capacitive screen are characteristics that add to this position on the Archos device.
Although it cannot be assured what is the exact position where will Android be in this line of phones, on the other hand, if the OS has been able to find its place in cameras and ovens, Panasonic can be given the benefit of the doubt.
