The Oppo Find X2 Pro excels in audio and sound tests [Review]

Audio and sound tests of the Oppo Find X2 Pro by DxOMark

Launched in early March as Oppo's most advanced flagship, the Find the X2 Pro, the older brother of the Find X2, is already positioned as one of the best high-performance smartphones of this 2020.

There is little that this device has to offer, and less if we take into account that it has the chipset Snapdragon 865, Qualcomm's most powerful SoC today, and a 120Hz refresh rate display. Apart from these two details, other characteristics and technical specifications are also available in this model that make it stand out; one of the sections where it performs best is in audio and sound, and DxOMark, through its new review, highlights this.

This is what DxOMark says about the audio and sound of the Oppo Find X2 Pro

Audio and sound scores of the Oppo Find X2 Pro

Audio and sound scores of the Oppo Find X2 Pro | DxOMark

With an overall score of 74, The Oppo Find X2 Pro is among the best devices for audio performance that DxOMark has measured so far. In playback tests, the Find X2 Pro was able to 'engage the listener', especially while watching movies or playing games, thanks to the strong bass presence, the pleasant pounding sensation at a soft and nominal volume, good localization and very few artifacts. However, the mid-range frequencies are inconsistent and quite muffled, which, coupled with booming sound, impairs distance rendering and bass accuracy.

In Recording, the Find X2 Pro ranks among the best for almost every sub-attribute. With good low-end extension, exceptional spaciousness, decent volume reproduction, and very few artifacts, the flagship phone offers reliable performance, especially in noisy or complex environments. However, the maximum volume could be improved and the mid-range is again inconsistent.

The points tested by DxOMark and its team of experts are left below, but, before describing them, we list the audio and sound specifications of the mobile:

Key audio specs:

• Full-range speakers (upper center and lower right).
•Dolby Atmos.
• No headphone jack (USB-C adapter included).

Reproduction

Stamps

DxoMark's ringer tests measure how well a phone reproduces sound throughout the audible tonal range and takes into account bass, mids, treble, tonal balance, and volume dependence.

The Oppo Find X2 Pro offers a very good ringing performance, thanks to the great overall tonal balance and, as advertised, a strong bass presence. The deep low-end extension allows for an immersive listening experience, especially while watching movies or playing games.

Dynamic

Thanks to its powerful bass reproduction, the Find X2 Pro's dynamic performance excels in smooth volume for all three criteria in this category: attack, punch, and bass precision. In general, at a soft volume, Oppo's phone outshines all of its competitors to date.

At nominal volume, the secondary scores are still quite good, although the precision of attack and bass is slightly affected by an overall booming sound. As the volume increases, the precision decreases, and the attack in particular is muffled at maximum volume.

Space

Upper and lower speakers provide good spatial accuracyespecially for locating sound sources in the mix. Balance is good too, while spaciousness, while satisfying, isn't nearly as good as higher-end devices. Distance perception is excellent on film and globally consistent, although slightly affected by muffled media.

Volume

DxOMark's volume tests measure both the overall volume a device can produce and the smoothness of the volume that rises and falls based on user input.

The volume levels of the mobile feel natural, and the maximum volume is good. For once, the first few steps of volume feel too loud for high-volume content, but clear and intelligible for high-dynamic content like classical music.

Artifacts

Audio played through the Find X2 Pro's speakers suffers from few or no artifacts. In addition to the bass distortion and low-end resonances, which is to be expected in such devices, Oppo does a great job of controlling unwanted sounds, giving its latest flagship device an admirable sub-score in this segment. .

Recording

Stamps

With a score of 79, The Oppo Find X2 Pro guarantees excellent ring recording performance in all DxOMark use cases. It even beats the Mi 10 Pro and iPhone XS Max in the entire bass frequency range.

The high-end extension is good too. However, at high volume, the mid-range could be more present and the low-end span shortens.

Dynamic

The Oppo Find X2 Pro's microphones do a very good job of preserving the natural surround of the voices. Most of the use case scenarios show quite good results, although the dynamic performance of the device in noisy environments is only average, due to the improved precision of the envelope.

Space

The spatial performance, while also satisfying, is quite different on the recording side. This time, the breadth is exceptional, with the Find X2 Pro setting a new record among the devices DxOMark has tested so far.

On the other hand, the location is affected by a slightly muffled sound when using the selfie camera. In any other use case (meeting room, life video, among others), the localization capacity remains excellent and the remote representation is very good.

Volume

The Find X2 Pro reproduces the overall volume decently and performs quite well in all tested use cases except during the meeting where it might need a little boost. While the max volume is decent overall, has occasional high-end distortion flaws.

Artifacts

En general, audio recordings suffer from very few artifacts, even in noisy environments. However, overcompression and distortion can sometimes occur, and high-end resonances can cause a slight hiss.

Background

Thanks to the phone's deep low-end extension and the ability to control artifacts, background playback is accurate and balancedespecially in complex environments. That said, the background noise is more natural and less aggressive in indoor use cases.
