How to use Kodi, the most complete Android media player

kodi for Android

Do you know the Kodi media player? If the answer is 'No', you don't know what you are missing. If you asked me "what can I do with Kodi ?, I would have to answer" what do you want to do? Kodi is not Media player simple to use, and in fact it took me a long time to do it when it was still called XBMC, but, once we know how to take advantage of it, we can reproduce any type of content.

Kodi can play from music and movies that we have stored on our hard drive to consume streaming content, which also includes watching live television, both free and paid channels. As I said, if you don't know it, you don't know what you're missing, and that is the reason why we want to provide you with basic information about one of the best, if not the best, multimedia player out there. And yes it is available for Android.

Manual to download and use Kodi on Android

How to use Kodi

That Google Play relaxes the acceptance of applications has its bad things and its positive points. The good thing is that in the official Android application store there are practically all kinds of applications, and Kodi is available from Google Play. This has not always been the case, and until not long ago we had to go to the web kodi.tv, choose the version for our device, which could make us try both versions if we did not know what type of processor our Android device used, and install it.

If it turns out that you use a version of Android without Google Play, which is not very normal but it is possible, for example, in Remix OS, you can always install Kodi with the old method.

Once installed, we will have to make some recommended modifications:

  • The first thing I do is put Kodi in my language, Spanish. For this we have to go to System/Appearance/ International /Language. We tap on the option and look for "Spanish".
  • Later, but this is personal preference, we can change the way the time is displayed from the "Region" section. I put it in «Spain (24 hours)».
  • If we wish, we can change or download themes for the interface from the "Skin" section, but this is something that I do not recommend for a simple reason: the "Confluence" skin is the one that comes by default and most of the tutorials and routes We usually say them based on how they are displayed in the default theme.

Now that we have Kodi in our language, we will have to make it do interesting things, for which we will have to install some addons.

How to install addons on Kodi, we show you on video.

In the video that I leave just above these lines you can see how easy it is download and install KODI on our Android as well as start installing addons, a process that, despite being very simple and having several ways to achieve it, for the most novice users can be a real torture.

Install addons on Kodi It is very easy, but there are several ways to do it. If we have found it online, we will have a .zip file and we will install it by following these steps:

  1. Let System/Add-ons/ Install from file.zip.
  2. We look for the .zip file that we would have downloaded.
  3. We select it and that's it. We will have to wait for a message to appear in the lower right corner advising us that the addon has been installed. We are likely to see things being installed that we don't know what they are, but they are dependencies. If this is the case, the addon will be fully installed when we see the message that tells us that something with the same name as the addon in question has been installed.

But there is another recommended method, which is to add the repositories and install them from them. This method is a bit longer, but it is recommended and we will work on any deviceeven though it cannot access .zip files. We will add a repository by following these steps:

  1. Let System / File manager. Be careful, you do not have to enter completely. The option should appear below the main screen menu.
  2. We touch on «Add source».
  3. We played on « ».
  4. Here we put the URL of the repository. I recommend you install the SuperRepo, whose URL is http://srp.nu. Once entered, we touch on «Done».
  5. Next, we touch below the blue text that says "Enter a name for this media source" and we give it a name. SuperRepo is fine, but we can put what we understand best. When we have it on, we touch "Done."
  6. To save it, in the next window we tap on «Ok».
  7. But, although it may seem so, we will not yet have access to the repository. For this we will have to install it. We return to the main screen and go to System/addons/ Install from file.zip/super repo, in case that is the name with which you have saved it in step 5.
  8. We choose the Jarvis folder, which is v16,
  9. We access the folder «all».
  10. Next we have to touch on the .zip file that appears, which at the time of writing is "superrepo.kodi.jarvis.all.0.7.04.zip" and, now, we will have the repository installed.

Once we have the repository installed, to install addons from it we will have to go to System/addons/ Install from repository and choose the installed repository which, in this case, would be "SuperRepo All [Jarvis] [v7]". Inside we have hundreds to choose from, so I will also recommend a few that are worth having installed on any Kodi worth its salt.

Top addons for Kodi

How to use Kodi

There are so many to choose from that I am going to recommend mainly the two that I have used the most, although I will also add some that I know many users like.

Pelisala letter

Pelisalacarta is nothing more than an addon that allows us to access pages where movies, series and documentaries are available. It has an option that allows us to search the content directly, although the best thing is, for example, to enter the addon settings and configure our Pordede username and password, which will allow us to see the pending movies, our favorites, etc., of one of the best pages of its kind. Pelisalacarta is like a online video store, but free.

adrienlist

The Adryan addon has been gaining in popularity over time. It is an addon that includes live tv channels (and other content), which will allow us to watch channels such as Canal Plus Liga and many others.

The addon is Spanish-speaking, which means that it has channels from Spain and Latin America. Highly recommended, especially for users who do not want to heat their head any more.

Other recommended addons for Kodi

  • Dexter TV: TV channels of many countries.
  • Plexus: to play channel lists, such as rtsp, m3u8 and rtmp, but works only with Sopcast and Acestream modules.
  • P2P Streams: also works with Sopcast and Acestreams modules. It offers higher quality than Plexus, but you need a good internet connection.
  • Sportsdevil- The holy grail of sports, but not as easy to install as other addons.

How to use Kodi

In addition to options like DexterTV or Adryanlist, there is also another very interesting one. It is about installing, or rather activating the addon Simple IPTV PVR Client, which is available from System/addons/ My add-ons/ PVR Clients. The bad thing is that this client is to reproduce channel lists, something more difficult to obtain but that is full on the internet. If you want to watch live TV from Kodi with this addon, you have to follow these steps:

  1. From the previous route, we activate PVR IPTV Simple Client.
  2. Once activated, we go to the System / TV / General route.
  3. We activate the box above, which is to the right of «Activated».
  4. We go back to the route System/Add-ons/ My add-ons/ PVR Clients / Simple IPTV PVR Client and we choose «Configure».
  5. At this point we have to enter the list that we have saved. We have several options, but I would focus on two:
  6. Local route. With this option, we will only have to open a file that we have previously downloaded.
  7. Remote path. We can also put the URL of the list that we have located.
  8. Once the list is entered, we restart Kodi.
  9. When you enter again, the list will start to load and a new TV option will appear on the main screen that is much better and is better organized than addons like Adryanlist.

Kodi on Android TV

Kodi is also available for Android TV. It can be installed in two ways:

Installation from Google Play

How to use Kodi

As in the version for mobiles and tablets, it can be installed Kodi on Android TV from Google Play and its installation is as simple as accessing the official store, searching for Kodi and installing or downloading it from the link that I will add at the end of this post.

Manual installation

If for whatever reason you can't install Kodi from Google Play, we can always do manual installation. To do this, we will follow these steps:

  1. As in mobile devices, we will first have to go to Settings / Security and restrictions and activate Unknown sources.
  2. Next, from a computer we have to go to the web http://kodi.tv/download/ and download the version for our hardware, which can be ARM or x86.
  3. We copy the file on a USB pendrive.
  4. We connect the USB to the Android TV.
  5. From the Android TV, we go to Google Play, we look for ES File Explorer and we install it.
  6. Finally, we open ES File Explorer, look for the downloaded file and install it.

Now you can't say that you don't know how Kodi works on Android, right?
