Google adds two new features to Chrome to improve page load times

Chrome

When launching Google Chrome 41 and Google Chrome 42 beta recently, Google included a number of performance improvements which should result in faster page loading.

These two new features are "Script streaming" and "code cashing", and they are JavaScript techniques that should allow users, not only to load the pages in a faster way when reduce the load in some cases up to 10%, it also reduces battery consumption by 40%.

Script Streaming in Chrome 41

The first feature will improve parsing of JavaScript files. Under the old method, Chrome had to wait while the entire script had to be downloaded before this analysis process started. This method did not optimize CPU usage while the download was occurring.

In the Chrome version 41 scripts are parsed in separate events as they begin to be downloaded, which means that this will take a few milliseconds and users will see a 10% improvement in page load time. Google mentions that this improvement it will be noticed more under slow connections like 3G.

Code Caching in Chrome 42 beta

This second characteristic will help improve load times on pages that the user frequently visits. Previously, Google's V8 engine compiled the JavaScript of a web page each time a visit was made. Once the user left this page, the compiled code was discarded.

Version Chrome 42beta it will now use an advanced technique that will store a copy of the compiled page locally on the user's device, allowing it to be able to bypass the re-download, parse, and compile process. This means that by eliminating these steps, when going to that page that the user usually visits, compilation time is saved by 40%. Google mentions here that it will save battery life.

And from what Google itself says these improvements will not be the onlyas it will launch new announcements very soon that will integrate better performance of the Chrome web browser for mobile devices. You can download the two APKs of Chrome 41 and Chrome 42 beta below.
