Google acquires Fabric, Twitter's mobile app development platform

Google

Crashlyrics was founded in 2011 and acquired by Twitter at the beginning of 2013. A team that continued its work and managed to launch an SDK that was used in more than 1 million applications. They developed software that allowed iOS, Android and Unity developers to know why their applications were not stable.

Towards the end of 2016, they announced that their software had been installed on more than 2.000 billion active devices, so that we can better understand its worth. Just two years after Twitter acquired Crashlytics, they announced Fabric, purchased today by Google for the team to work under the Google Developer Products Group.

Fabric was the expansion to mobile app analytics, beta distribution, and user authentication and identification. In a short time Fabric has become quite popular in the developer community from mobile. It was ultimately Crashlytics' first introduction to a modular SDK platform for the company, allowing developers to choose the features they needed.

As for Twitter and the reason for the Fabric sale, it is because the first is cutting expenses to even know that Vine has deleted, the popular social network of mini video clips. This is why Fabric no longer plays a vitan role on its social platform, so it sought a meeting with Google to sell its technology.

The team behind Fabric will work now under the Google Developer Products Group and they will be working directly with the Firebase team. Both teams will have the goal of helping developers to design better applications while helping them grow and scale their business. We will see where this acquisition ends and if Google will allow Fabric to continue independently, or will simply implement its technology on Firebase.
