As phishing campaigns become increasingly sophisticated or deceptive, developers have to offer immediate solutions to protect their users.
This is precisely what Google did, since a few hours after receiving a huge phishing attack against Gmail users, the company has launched a new security feature for the Gmail app on Android in order to prevent the theft of users' private data.
Likewise, the company also stated that already took action against the phishing attack received yesterday and proceeded to deactivate all phishing accounts and remove all fake pages from the web.
This phishing attack was quite elaborate and was carried out by sending messages supposedly from "a trusted source." Then, in the message, users were asked to click on a Google Docs attachment, which required certain "permits”Which were then used to access user data or even to steal contacts.
The new security feature now offered by Gmail on Android aims to protect users from these types of phishing attacks and other similar problems. Now, by clicking on a suspicious link within an email you will receive a warning in which you will be warned that said link could be malicious and then you will be given instructions on what to do or the possibility of skipping the warning and continuing with the opening of the web page if you know for sure that it is not a virus not a hack.
However, if you have already been affected by this recent phishing attack, you should go to your Google console and revoke access to Google Docs. Then you should also change your Google password and revoke the permission to all the applications that you do not recognize.
