Sending a file or even an entire folder to others with Dropbox is quite simple to do. But things get complicated if we want to do just the other way around, which would be to "collect" files from other people, for example, uploading the photographs taken at the baptism of our nephew into the same folder.
For this reason Dropbox has entered a new feature with a rather peculiar name: file requests. This new Dropbox functionality allows you to "request files" in such a way that any user can send images, videos or files to a certain folder that we have selected. Once the request is created, we can send the link created to any user that we want or even supply a series of emails to Dropbox so that it can contact them. In this way we will have a folder in Dropbox that our contacts or friends can access by directly uploading files, even without having a Dropbox account.
File requests
A very simple process that is practically virtually send a file to a request, in this case a folder, and whether it's for a college job, pictures from our son's birthday party, or an application for a certain job test. The possibilities are opened with this feature and yes, we must have enough storage space so that it does not fill us up suddenly.
One of the greatest virtues of this new functionality is that the user who uploads files to a certain folder in a request, will not need to have a Dropbox account. By using the shared link, the user can upload it to a web interface to add the files.
To make everything easier Dropbox even offers a management tool for all requests in order to know the status of each one. From this web tool we can close the request, create new ones and edit existing ones.
Wide range of possibilities
This functionality opens the doors to endless possibilities. From saving email attachments to have them arranged in a specific folder, sharing the link between a work group so that everyone can upload the images captured at a certain event, or even at a wedding, share the link through WhatsApp so that all attendees can upload their photos and have them all well arranged in the same folder.
File request reduces the use of shared folders for certain purposes, and in short, one of the best news that we have had from Dropbox for a little time.
