Xiaomi confirmed to be developing its own chip for smartphones

Pinecone

We already learned a few days ago that even the Pinecone chip had its own page on Weibo. As with all this type of news that does not come from official sources, we take it with a grain of salt. But the rumor and the idea that Xiaomi would be manufacturing its own chips are launched. Let's give some more rumors, and now we have something that is taking more shape to wait for the Chinese manufacturer to confirm.

And it seems that Xiaomi would soon be making its own processors. According to a latest report from The Wall Street JournalThe Chinese smartphone maker is planning to move from Qualcomm processors with its own chip vendor. Another movement caused by Samsung's trick with Qualcomm, so the latter could be seen in the face of seeing fewer devices with its chips in the coming years.

With its own chips, Xiaomi would enter to be part of other major manufacturers of smartphones like Apple, Samsung and Huawei that also design their own SoCs. The report cites various sources and indicates that Xiaomi is planning to publish its new processor which has been dubbed like Pinecone in a month.

Pinecone could be the processor used in the Xiaomi Mi 6, which is expected to be released sometime in March. Currently, Xiaomi uses Qualcomm processors for its smartphones, so with its own chips it plans to reduce dependence on that manufacturer's chips; a manufacturer that could see difficulties in partnering with Samsung.

The Xiaomi chip would be the product of Beijing Pinecone Electronics, a company linked to Xiaomi that resulted from the purchase of technologies for 15 million dollars from Datang, a subsidiary of Leadcore Technology Ltd.

The market share of Xiaomi has plummeted last year in China, because Oppo, Vivo and Huawei have taken the first three positions in that market.
