Sony Releases Android M Developer Preview for 17 Xperia Devices

Now yes we have reached the end for updates for certain Xperia devices who received Android Lollipop, when they really should have been on the verge of having the largest version of Android to date in their software system. A Lollipop that Sony wanted to give to Xperia devices that had legally completed their update cycle, an action that was a great joy for the owners of those terminals so that they could have in their hands what an Android experience with 5.0 means.

This is now over. Sony has released the Android M developer preview for seventeen Xperia devices. This means that it has released a guide to create and flash a test image of the Android M AOSP preview that can be used on any of the seventeen devices listed in its Open Device Program. This preview makes things easier for those who want to try any of the new Android M features, among which we find its improved permissions for apps.

Not prepared for daily use

Sony has launched the developer preview for the Android M version from its website. The device list that are available are:

  • Xperia Z3 / Z3 Compact / Tablet Compact
  • Xperia Z2 / Z2 Tablet
  • Xperia Z1 / Z1 Compact
  • Xperia Z / Z Ultra / ZL / Tablet Z
  • Xperia E3
  • Xperia M2
  • Xperia T2 Ultra
  • Xperia T3
  • Xperia L
  • Xperia S

Android M

The user friendly guide has been written to be used in Linux and for those users who are used to With the concept it will be quite easy to follow. This release will also help third-party app developers prepare for the final release. As always, it is appreciated that manufacturers open up in this way and allow access to these previews easier to improve apps or even ROMs.

We also have to remember how this will be the first preview, waiting for a second to be available later this month or early July. A third will have its launch by the end of July, so that we already have the final launch of Android M for autumn.

End of update cycle

That list of terminals that already have the previous one for Android M developers, means that those that are not in it they have finished their update cycle among which the Xperia Z itself stands out, which with its new version of Android 5.0.2 It's causing a lot of war. Now what we have to wait for those terminals not present in this preview is the arrival of Android 5.1 as announced by Sony and expected from July 1. A new version that possibly improves the battery when the phone is on and solves the problems with the stamina mode that the current version of Lollipop has for many Xperia.

Z1

Otherwise, little more to say and thank Sony that it has updated its entire Xperia range to Lollipop and that it continues with that policy of openness to developers with the launch of the previous one as it has done with Android M on this day. Good points in favor of this Japanese manufacturer that others should follow their path.
