The second quarter of 2020 was one of the worst years for smartphone makers, due to the confinement of millions of people in their homes caused by the coronavirus. The only device that it was sold quite easily were the tablets since millions of students had to continue studying from their homes.
But once the storm passed, the calm arrived. Last month, the guys at IDC again ranked Samsung as the manufacturer that sells the most smartphones worldwide, maintaining the title that he obtained several years ago and will manage to maintain since his only rival Huawei, is not going through good times.
The telephony market in the United States is divided almost equally between Samsung and Apple. In the past three years, Apple had managed to establish itself as the best seller, a position that Samsung just snatched during the last quarter according to the Korea Herald media based on data from Strategy Analytics.
According to Strategy Analytics, Samsung acquired 33.7% of the US market, which is an increase of 6.7% compared to the same period of the previous year. Apple's market share in the July-September quarter is 30.2%. In third position we find LG, with a market share of 14.7%.
Strategy Analytics says that much of the growth it has experienced in the United States is due to the wide range of mid-range models that it has launched on the market, in addition to the commitment to innovation with the Galaxy S20, Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy Z Fold 2 and the Galaxy Z Flip.
Another reason that has allowed Samsung to achieve the leading position in the market is due to the fact that the new iPhone 12 range did not reach the market until October, although the bulk of the sales of the new iPhone is always produced in the last quarter of the year.
