Xiaomi Mi 10 T Pro, marking the beginning of the high-end [Analysis]

The ranges in mobile telephony are increasingly diffuse, although we are clear that there are two polarized sectors that are becoming less common among the interests of the most common users, the low ranges and the high ranges. The mid-range broke through to offer reasonable technical features at low prices, and that's where Xiaomi usually shines.

Discover with us all the capabilities of the new Xiaomi Mi 10 T Pro.

Materials and design

We start with the unboxing of this Xiaomi Mi 10 T Pro, which by the way, is at a very interesting price below 500 euros on Amazon right now. On this occasion Xiaomi has once again bet on a shiny glass for the back, And the truth is that despite the many footprints it generates, we like it a lot. In this rear part, curved in its four parts, the camera module on the upper left stands out, perhaps one of the most prominent on the market. This can be a problem if we place the mobile on the table with the screen facing up.

This device is one of the largest and heaviest of the equivalents, we remember that we have 165 * 76,4 * 9,3 millimeters in terms of dimensions for no less than 218 grams. Its 6,67-inch screen does not stand out for being especially large, however, we do have a somewhat denser battery than in alternatives from other brands. Despite everything, it is comfortable in the hand, it feels robust but also gives the feeling of being perfectly built. On the front with its 2,5D glass highlights the freckle in the upper left area where the camera is located Selfie.

Technical characteristics

It does not seem that on a technical level we are going to lack much in this Xiaomi Mi 10 T Pro that, as we have said, wants to lay the foundations of a "cheap" high-end range. That is why it chooses Qualcomm with its well-known Snapdragon 865 which comes with a 5G modem. As for RAM, they don't skimp either, they choose 8 GB of LPDDR5X memory from the most "top" on the market, as is the case with general storage, where they bet on 128 or 256 GB in total but with UFS 3.1 technology the fastest on the market.

As we said, its technical characteristics and capabilities seem to want to leave absolutely nothing behind, we have ultra-fast memories and a processor of recognized solvency.

Display and multimedia experience

As for the panel, we start with the first bittersweet flavor. We have a considerable size of 6,67 inches which is not bad at all, but the fact of having the fingerprint reader on the side already warns us that we have an IPS LCD panel. Despite this, we have more than enough resolution FullHD +, ayeah like a refresh rate of 144 Hz adjustable that gives us an exceptional experience. However, we have defects inherent to a panel of this type such as certain shadows on the edges or next to the selfie camera, as well as a brightness outdoors that despite being of 650 nits, it seems insufficient to us.

  • Good contrast and choice of colors
  • Inherent defects of IPS LCD screens
  • 395 pixels per inch density

For its part, we have two stereo speakers, without confirmed Dolby Atmos compatibility. They are heard loud and clear enough to enjoy the content despite missing a more noticeable bass boost and highlighting a slight canned sound. However, it is appreciated that they bet on stereo sound, something less and less present in Xiaomi.

Autonomy and camera

The camera is the first section where we realize that we are facing a device that points and shoots at the high end, without being a terminal of these characteristics in its own right. It stands out for its versatility thanks to the sensors that the firm bets on and that we analyze:

  • Main courses 108 megapixel (1 / 1,33 inches, 1,6 µm pixels) with f / 1.69 aperture and 82º field of view. It has optical image stabilization for image recording. This sensor sometimes suffers with backlight photography and gives us good overall results. The HDR comes in quite strongly although I advise activating it to save the burnt skies.
  • Ultra Wide Angle 13 megapixel (1,12 μm pixels) with f / 2.4 aperture and 123º field of view, offers a good overall result, its white balance is stable, despite this we do not obtain the detail typical of a 13 lens MP and with lack of lighting will show quite a lot of noise.
  • Macro 5MP with f / 2.4 aperture
  • selfie of 20MP with aperture f / 2.2 that offers a well-contrasted result, with the classic excessive incidence of the beauty mode even in its minimal ranges.

As for video recording, we get a relatively good stabilization in the main camera, we forget about stabilization and go back to the past with the rest of the sensors. We have relatively good results in the Automatic night mode With the main lens, we opted for a lot of noise when we talk about the rest of the cameras, in fact, even the selfie gets better results in low light than with the Ultra Wide Angle lens.

Regarding autonomy, expected with a large 5.000 mAh battery. It allows us to fully enjoy the 144 Hz of the screen, we get between 7 and 8 hours of screen depending on the type of use we give the terminal, at least this has been reflected in our tests. The autonomy is notably benefited if we go from 144 Hz to 90 Hz refresh rate, something that falls within the logic.

Fast charging gives us the possibility of reaching more than 60% battery life in just half an hour by 30W USB-C charger that is included in the package. To load the complete terminal we will need a little over an hour.

User experience

The terminal it has offered excellent performance in content processing, video games and of course the rest of everyday tasks. The speed of its memory as well as its technical characteristics give us a high-end experience. We take into account that we have a 5G chip Although we have not been able to verify the result of its operation as it lacks this type of connectivity most of the time, so seeing the "5G" logo appear from time to time on the top bar is not enough to offer you a judgment of value with respect to its performance, not so with the wifi 6, that offers a very high performance, as you would expect.

We have on the other hand some reminder that we are one step below the highest range, As for example happens with the sound quality, which does not end up offering us an experience that is too enriching, as well as with the cameras, as soon as you demand less favorable conditions, they begin to have problems to offer results at the height. Despite this, it offers us a very interesting plus of versatility taking into account the type of its sensors and Xiaomi's well-known camera app, which greatly enhance the overall experience in these terms.

For its part, the IPS LCD panel It has also left me a bittersweet feeling, offering a brutal automatic refresh rate, the same happens with the resolution and the adjustment of the colors, completely successful from my point of view. Things change when we see those constant shadows at the angles of the screen and around the upper freckle, something inappropriate for a terminal whose launch price exceeded six hundred euros. This can cloud the 'premium' experience, despite the otherwise enviable panel. The experience with the joke has been good, both with the fingerprint sensor located on the side and with the facial recognition.

The terminal is well built and makes us doubt if we really are in the highest range or not, however, it is the small details that remind you if you are in front of a 1.000 euro terminal or a 600 euro one. It is true that perhaps the price difference does not compensate for these details, but that will and will always be the difference between the high-end and a very well-achieved mid-range, which on the other hand, you are not stopping paying taking into account the price of this Xiaomi Mi 10 T Pro, in which, however, you will not miss absolutely anything.
