A few weeks ago, leaker Evan Blass brought to light a video of Xiaomi's foldable phone. The leaked video revealed that the left and right parts of the screen could be folded to transform into a compact device.
Today, Xiaomi President Lin Bin shared a practical video of his foldable phone. It appears to be the same device that Blass leaked earlier this month.
The company has yet to announce the official name of its dual folding design phone. Bin has said that he has thought of names like Xiaomi Dual Flex and Xiaomi MIX Flex for the folding phone. He has asked Weibo users to suggest a good name for the phone.
Samsung is expected to debut its first foldable phone next month. The smartphone can be opened like a book to access its 7.3-inch foldable screen. However, Xiaomi's next foldable phone will sport a unique design. Lin Bin claims it will be the world's double-folded mobile phone. As you can see in the video above, the terminal screen can be folded from the left and right sides.
Bin has stated that the device shown in the video is an engineering unit. The company had overcome several technical difficulties to build a phone with a dual folding design. Some of the problems that the company was able to overcome are related to the flexible folding screen technology, the four-wheel drive folding axle technology, the flexible cover technology, the adaptation of the MIUI system, etc.
Bin has claimed that the dual form factor of the Xiaomi Dual Flex / MIX Flex allows it to offer a combined experience of a tablet and a smartphone. In the video, the container can be seen holding the deployed device between the thumb and little finger, suggesting that could be featuring a screen around 6 inches. After folding the device into a square shape from both sides, it can morph into a device with a small screen with a width of around 3 inches. There is a button on the top of the phone to lock the phone screen.
There is no information on the specifications of this Xiaomi smartphone. It could probably come with the Snapdragon 855 and 8 GB of RAM. Xiaomi has confirmed that it will be present at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 technology exhibition on February 24. Probably, Xiaomi Dual Flex / MIX Flex device could be released at MWC.
