In its quest to remain the benchmark application, the company has announced that it will continue offering support for terminals managed by Android Gingerbread 2.3.7

WhatsApp will continue to allow users of Android terminals with Gingerbread until 2020, specifically until February 1 of that same year. Considering that the first version of Android Gingerbread was announced in 2010, it means that WhatsApp offers support for a 10-year-old operating system (when we get to 2020).

We do not know why WhatsApp continues to offer support for a version of Android that today found in just 0,3% of active devices currently on the market, based on the latest adoption data provided by Google through its developer portal.

According to the company, as they have stopped developing functions for this platform, it is likely that some of the functions that are available today, they may stop being at any time.

Facebook's messaging platform has announced that the other operating system in the mobile market, Apple's iOS, will continue to offer support for the seventh version until the same date, since versions prior to iOS 7 can no longer use WhatsApp in its terminals. The next mobile operating system where WhatsApp will stop working will be Nokia S40.
