What was before, Android or IOS?

Have you ever wondered, What was developed before Android or IOS? In this article we will try to explain which of the two came first.

Some time ago, Steve Jobs quoted the following words:"I am going to destroy Android because it is a stolen product", accusing Android that it was a copy of IOS.

After the controversial phrase Google stated"It is impossible that it copied Apple, since Android preceded iOS".

Eric Schmid, former CEO of Google, assured:

“I have decided not to comment on what has been written in a book after his death. Steve is a fantastic human being and someone I miss. As a general comment, I think many people will agree that Google is a great innovator and I would like to point out that the Android effort started before the iPhone effort".

And it qualifies the dates, since if we look at it, Android was founded in 2003 and two years later (2005) it was bought by Google. Conversely, Apple released its iPhone device in 2007.

This does not remove the idea that Apple began the development of IOS before 2003. But what counts is who removed the innovation and the initial vision from whom. Android would win as it would take 4 years to develop before the first iPhone hit the market.

I personally admire Steve Jobs, both at a personal level and at the IT level. Since its inception, it has innovated both in technology and design. Definitely, an artist in computing.

And coincidentally, the great phrase of Pablo Picasso comes to mind: "Good artists copy, great artists steal." And lately Apple is a great artist Notification bar right?

well, well, well ……… .and what difference does it make who copies who, who was first or second if for us it is better that they copy everything they want and when I go to the store to buy a phone with the copy of one and the other have in my hands the best machine there can be, I think they do well, right?

    2.    maurogoya said

Correction! The notification bar on iOS. It existed long before it appeared on android, since having jailbreak, you could install a tweak called lockinfo, and it turned to the notification bar, and what's more, Apple took that idea of the jailbreak not from copying ideas from Google. And I give you other information, in the android notification bar, there are the buttons to deactivate the wifi and etc., and that already existed in the jailbreak of the first iPhone, it was a tweak that was called and is called SBSettings. And I give you other information, SBSettings has the same functions, the same buttons as the android notification bar, how strange. Android is a Google iOS… Let's think guys, android is nothing more than modified iOS (I speak in the user interface). And by the way, another thing, in France a few months ago in a Samsungs & Androids store, at the bottom of the wall were many application icons and one of those applications was the Apple App Store, the same icon, the same background of the icon .. How funny, in the end how much plagiarism to walk up to Apple, but they are one step ahead.

Let's not be fanatics. And if one was first and another later, the truth is that Apple innovated in the market with its products and made others change their system. Android as if it was first or not, is the one who has made Apple give in to its rules because everyone knows it tries to keep them tied to its monopoly. This does not mean that for a group of consumers it is the preferred phone, either because of its simplicity in use and stability in the system. On the other hand, on Android it is by far a more fun system and without restrictions. Whether they like it or not has made the apple change its game strategy for us consumers. In other words, the competition benefits us and not the companies and the twisted minds of the greats to bind us to their rules.

Android presented several prototypes, some type bb (like the one you mentioned) and another focused on touch, also the ios interface? As far as I know, it is an icon template and a slide lock screen, but if you mean that apple invented the square, well….

    1.    said

Sure! Apple did nothing and that's why I ousted the rest of the industry, there you have the dying RIM, Nokia, Palms, etc.
The touch-focused prototypes came later and had absolutely nothing to do with what later became Android

      1.    Zack said

Apple did not unseat the rest of the industry, the rest of the industry collapsed on its own. Because they did not know how to have a vision for the future and rest on their laurels, Nokia, RIM, etc., did not know how to "update" their products and update themselves to what the market demanded.

Because if not Apple would also have unseated Google and look at it, eating ground at full speed.

        1.    Keeper33 said

It is normal for him to eat the ground, since he is a single mobile competing against the world

And it can't make a lot of mobiles because then it wouldn't be Apple, it would lose the user experience and fragmentation would begin.

Siri Siri Siri, it can be useful from time to time but I don't see myself using it day to day:
Cannot be used if there is noise
It is not processed on the iphone 4s (it is on apple servers) so you need a data package

Some may wonder why only for 4s if the iphone does not process it, it is the easy one, by leaving that feature as "exclusive", they give you a "reason" to change your iphone 4 for the 4s.

                1.    Federico said

Tell me which person in the world has the money to buy an iPhone and doesn't have it to pay for a data package? Another piece of information: if siri were so useless, there wouldn't be as many copies for android as IRIS (how strange isn't it? If we read it backwards, it's SIRI), cloe, etc. Another thing, siri has already been tested on other idevices such as ipod touch 4 and iphone 4 and it works perfectly. apart from some hackers already ported siri to iphone 4 with their own servers so it is not just a thing of the iphone 4s (which beats any phone on the market).

With android we are not talking about the manufacture of telephones (that is a thing of Samsung, HTC, etc.) but about which mobile operating system is most used.

And it may be that the user experience is better at Apple, but people increasingly like Android more (whether it is their freedom when using it, its variety and prices or whatever) and that is why it eats away at it. .

And regarding fragmentation ... it is no longer a problem, at least for Android. It is true that in the current versions it exists, but with Ice Scream Sandwich it will be solved.

My last two phones have been androids, I have never had an iPhone, I am Linux and anti-apple. That said, if we're going to compare, it shouldn't be Android vs. iPhone presentation, either you compare the start of development of both or the presentation of both.

    1.    Zack said

      "Linuxero and anti-apple."

Your phrase contradicts itself a lot, since although Apple does not admit it, deep down it is a linux.

But I understand you, I also do not share the closed policy that Apple has.

      1.    Keeper33 said

Mac OS is not a linux, rather Linux is a Unix, since they both drink from the same source

          Good contribution!

When I said that it is like a linux I was referring to Unix. Using Linux in command mode is what you have, which sometimes get confused xD.

      2.    roberto_miguel_z said

Let's see… ..Mac OS X is derived from UNIX not Linux… ..and iOS would be similar but something very capacious, so it is different from an Android with a Linux kernel. You could say they are cousins, but iOS is not Linux.

Good morning, I'm going to tell you what the story really was.

In 2002 Apple was trying to create a tablet but the prototypes did not convince Steve so they decided to develop a phone and put two teams to work one would reduce the osx and the other would expand the operating system of the ipod. Finally the reduced OSX would be chosen. One of these developers of the first iPhone-OS created a gmail account in 2005 and then the big brother I said, Google realized that it was cooked in Apple and ran out to buy the Android company. And until 2007 when the iPhone came out, Google only limited itself to putting videos on YouTube with the fools that made that Android copy of Blackberry. And when they bought an iPhone and saw it, they said "we want it" just like Bill Gates said when he saw the Mac. And from there it was copy, copy, copy and copy. Outside keyboard, multi-touch gestures, app store, etc. Yes, the notification bar is a copy of Android and Apple did it on purpose with the peace of mind that Google would never denounce them for plagiarism because whoever steals from a thief has 100 years of forgiveness.

What I do know is that the first Android prototypes were like the Blackberry, that is, they were copying RIM, but when the iPhone came out, they copied the essence of the iPhone, it was keyboards, it was ball, all tactile and without a keyboard. It is true that Apple in the iOs4 has copied the notification bar, but let's see, Android has copied all the rest, the essence of the iPhone has been copied.

  7.   Keeper33 said

Hello friend Zack, Android seems to me a great operating system, and it is true that the notification bar is blatantly similar to that of this system. Android may have started to develop in 1900 if you want, but you just have to compare the first Android with the first iPhone, I'll refresh your memory ...

The first android was a device very similar to a blackberry, nothing tactile, a system to use with keys. On the other hand, after the appearance of the iPhone some time later the new Android came to light, which would acquire many of the concepts that it had, such as icons, scrolling the screen and even the gesture of zooming in or out.

Here everyone copies from everyone, that's clear, but Android copied first and Apple copied now

    1.    roberto_miguel_z said

Even so, I think that the development of Android started earlier, although Apple matures its product first, for me both are copied ……… but without a doubt Android is quite different from iOS, Linux kernel, more versatile, it can be an improvement in certain aspects .
But still, all the history of technology are copies. Ask XEROX

    2.    roberto_miguel_z said

It doesn't matter who started first, if not who does it best. It does not seem fair to me to patent a functionality and that nobody else can use it. It's ridiculous. Also in its core Android was always different and with native multitasking, just to mention an example, and iOS incorporated multitask until many versions later.

  8.   alib said

Although it had been android, you just have to see the first prototypes to know that android was oriented to other types of phone, maybe it was created before but I adopt what it is today after iphone

To have a better idea, we would have to read the media documentation of the year 2003, remember, although many deny it, Newton would be the grandfather of the iPhone in 1995, the idea is almost the same, a smart device of course for that time, the help was by Palm inc. I have a Newton and there is a lot of iOS and that Steve Jobs canceled its development and for 2001 they are doubtful when creating the iPod he saw the cell phone market already at that time there was already in the market Windows CE and Mobile even Palm its time gold, without a doubt iOS began its development in 2003 with the improvements of the iPod, remember that Symbian was at that time the best in the market after Palm OS, 2007 arrives and with the iOS with the iPhone 2008 arrives and with the G1 with Android clearer is impossible, as both are the best one needs the other to compete and be better.

    1.    roberto_miguel_z said

A clear comment, undoubtedly of the little good that Apple has brought to the world, is competition, the need to innovate and the pressure to compete. Without iPhone popularizing smartphones, we wouldn't have cheap Androids or 4-core Androids …… so at least Apple has done something good.

  10.   roberto_miguel_z said

For me the copies are not bad. That Apple copied XEROX, that Microsoft copy Apple, that Apple copy Android, Android copy Apple is not bad. They do not steal source code, they copy functionality, just as they have to figure it out to do the same.
It seems fair and perfectly correct to me.
What I can't stand is that companies like Apple want to patent up to the apple. And that they go to court. It's ridiculous. Not because Apple claims to have invented the smartphone, which is not true, it has the right to prevent anyone from making a smartphone. It borders on the ridiculous.

Do not compare android with the OS in the aspect that it is the most used operating system that is evident Apple has its system and its phone, Google has its operating system but not its phone so of course it will do the most used because Sony, Samsung , Lg, HTC etc ... They use it but it does not compare with the quality of Apple until now who knows later but I do not believe. And if we talk about copying through its notification bar that tells me about the copy of Siri that android tries to match with its S-voice, over time there will be those who continue to innovate and not copy !!!

  13.   applerules said

And the only thing that the Android ones get is "IOs copied the notification bar" but they don't say the things that android copied to IOs.

  14.   diego said

A, what I see I do not care who I copy who I only know that android is better than ios in every aspect

  15.   Francisco said

With all due respect android has more weaknesses than ios both have their sales and disadvantages but honestly android is not the best as you say being an android will never stay as fast when they give it its last year of updates however an iphone will be well optimized not the same as the first day but they never leave him ashamed despite his age. what ends up differentiating apple products is their quality
