Unlocking the mobile phone to use with another company, legal or illegal?

The practice of unlock phone to use with another company that is so widespread in our country became illegal from the day January 26 2013 With some exceptions, the most important is that the original operator who gave us or provided the terminal must agree to the release of the terminal.

The law proposed by the DMCA, (Digital Millennium Copyright Act), came into force on January 26 of this same year 2013 And it is what companies are currently clinging to tooth and nail to retain their customers with the excuse of not releasing the terminal to be able to use with other companies.

This makes us see that the laws are to cover and safeguard the interests of the large mobile phone companies, since this new measure affects previous laws that were in force in our country by which the aforementioned companies were forced to last a year of the acquisition of the telephone terminal and after the request of the interested party, to facilitate at no cost el unlock code of the device to be able to be used in another network different from that of the original operator.

From here we plead to the sanity of the companies in the mobile telephony sector and to take an example of AT&T, which will provide the unlocking code for their terminals for all customers who request it and who meet the requirements of pure common sense.

Requirements for AT&T to provide you with the unlock code

  1. Have no pending payment with the company
  2. Having complied with the contracted services, that is, if a line was contracted with a permanence of 24 months, it must have been fulfilled.
  3. The account must be active at the time of requesting the terminal unlock code.

Let's hope that the Spanish telephone companies do not cling to this law to try to keep their customers at all costs, and take good note of the measures taken by AT&T and translate them into the policies of their companies to allow the unlock mobile phone to be able to use with other companies if that is what the user wants.

Too bad about the law, here in Chile with the portability law, it is very fast and easy to unlock the mobile for any company, since everything is done online.

In my country, Chile, for about a year the law obliges companies to sell unlocked cell phones to be used by any company. The objective is to be retained for quality of service and not for a device contract. You can change your operator every 6 months if you wish.

In Mexico, how do you need to do that (offering the codes or releasing the mobile) ... Far from doing that, they damage the release zone by code and force you to use blackbox or go to someone who easily takes out about 600 pesos (about 40 euros) when many times not even the same mobile costs so much ... But of course! As each company has its own private mobile (or special or unique, whatever they want to call it)
