Something exclusive that owns the Nexus 5 It is the Google Experience launcher itself that has Google Now integrated into it, being able to launch the search application with a simple gesture and that also has a transparent navigation bar. A detail that undoubtedly distinguishes the new Nexus device created by LG.
We show you how to download and install the exclusive launcher of the Nexus 5 and how to opt for other third-party launchers to be able to have that transparent navigation bar as it offers the same beta of Nova Launcher launched yesterday.
Although it is not by default GEL (Google Experience Launcher), there are ways to install it on our device with Android 4.4 KitKat.
Since the default launcher with Android 4.4 on the Nexus 7 2013 does not come with any kind of transparency, the solution is to install a launcher.
Nova Launcher
Yesterday the beta of the popular launcher Nova was launched that we collected right here in Androidsis and that activates the transparency from settings and that offers the same almost as GEL.
The only thing you will miss is that there is no Google Now integration on the Nova Launcher desktop.
Google Experience Launcher - GEL
Since Google decided that the new launcher was totally exclusive to the Nexus 5, there is a way to install it manually, since the code appears inside «Search 3.0», which comes with the KitKat OTA update.
The only thing you owe install is the APK called «GoogleHome» (com.google.android.launcher.). The APK is 12MB.
Before you install this Google launcher, you have to know that has been pulled from the Nexus phone and that it has to adapt to a tablet like the Nexus 7 2013, with what this entails.
One of the problems you will find is that each time you press the Home key while you are in another application, the keyboard will appear without knowing the reason. Other trivial details are that the search box is not centered and that the app drawer icon is not like the one on the Nexus 5.
You can download the launcher from this same link or this other one. Install the APK and with press the «Home» key you can activate it.
As it is not understood very well it is the reason for the exclusivity of the launcher for the Nexus 5, being an important feature with the integration of Google Now. It should be more of a teaser for those purchasing the Nexus 5, as it was last year with the PhotoSphere camera feature.
