The fourth beta of Android O includes a floating octopus

Yesterday afternoon, Google released the fourth and final preview version for Android O developers for Pixel and Nexus devices. And although there is still no official name for Android 8.0, this has not prevented the company from introducing a new "easter egg" in this beta version, an octopus.

Otherwise, Android O beta 4 is a "release candidate", says Google in its official blog, that is, it is already stable enough for both developers and users. It includes a multitude of previously detected bug fixes, performance improvements and overall system stability, as well as final APIs that have been available since the third developer preview.

Android O (ctopus)

Traditionally, in each version of Android Google includes funny little "easter eggs" that have something to do with the name of the Android version. For example, Android Lollipop featured a Flappy Bird mini game where you had to avoid giant lollipop trees, while Android Jelly Bean featured the BeanFlinger game.

In the fourth Android developer preview, when clicking on the Android version several times in a row within the settings menu, the "O" logo will continue to appear in orange that we have seen in the past. But if you hold down that "O" logo, something totally new will appear on the screen: a floating octopus.

Our new friend the octopus will simply float through a blue that simulates the seabed, while we can drag him across the screen and stretch his body in different ways.

If you own a Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel C, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P or Nexus Player, you can manually update your device by downloading the new version of Android OR using the links in this page. Although if you prefer, you can wait for the update via OTA that will reach the devices registered in the Android beta program during the next few days.
