SwiftKey has become best android keyboard if one is looking for an alternative to the official OS for Google mobile devices. Its continuous updates, great customization and excellent performance have made it the example keyboard app to look at if you want to launch your own alternative keyboard to those that already exist.
Yesterday it was updated with a new version that brings with it Incognito Mode, shortcuts to expanded text, and much more. Of everything you will find in the update, the incognito mode stands out, which offers the option for the keyboard not to remember everything you type and it comes in handy for those more private conversations. The other great novelty is the support for text expansion, which will help you save a lot of keystrokes.
This is the full list of changes from the Swiftkey beta:
-
Incognito Mode
-
Shortcuts to expanded text
-
Change from the Latin format when you are in a field where you have to enter the email or password
-
All arrow keys are available in main mode for tablets
-
Fixed an underline issue for some local languages and Android N
-
Virtual keyboard can be used on Android N when a physical keyboard or Bluetooth is connected
To access incognito mode you must do it from quick settings on the keyboard. When it is active, you will have a dark theme that indicates very visually that you are in that mode. The great power of this mode is that the keyboard will not learn new words or store your data.
The other great novelty is the shortcuts to the expanded text that is available from the "clipboard" tab. You make a click on «More» in «My clipboards» and it directs you to the main screen of this configuration. Now you just have to choose "Add new clip" and you can enter the text and the shortcut to finally save it. When you are going to type the shortcut, the main suggestion will be the text that you have entered, you press space and it is entered.
Finally, we are left with the arrow keys for tablet mode. All these features will reach the final version, but you can test it from the beta in the widget below.
