Last year, Microsoft presented a curious bet on the world of telephony, a bet called Surface Duo, a terminal with two screens that foldsIn other words, it does not have a folding screen like the Galaxy Z Fold, the Z Flip, Motorola RAZR and Huawei Mate X, the only folding terminals currently available on the market.
Microsoft abandoned the development of Windows for devices a couple of years ago, so on its return to the world of telephony, without going through Nokia, it shows us a terminal managed by Android and where the entire ecosystem of Microsfot applications is integrated. In addition, it is compatible with the Surface Pen.
The Surface Duo integrates a hinge that allows the terminal to be opened up to 360 degrees that joins two 5,6-inch AMOLED-type displays that combined offer us a total size of 8,1 inches with a resolution of 2.700 × 1800.
The screens can work independently, showing different applications, or jointly, being Microsoft applications the only ones, for the moment, adapted.
Inside this smartphone we find the processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 de (processor from last year which was when it was introduced), along with 6 GB of RAM and is available in two storage versions: 128 and 256 GB.
The Surface Duo has a 11 MP camera, a camera that we can use both to take selfies and any other type of photography thanks to the hinges that allow us to position the camera towards the object we want to portray.
If we talk about battery, this seems one of the weakest points, since only offers us a capacity of 3,577 mAh, battery compatible with fast charge up to 18W. This folded terminal has a thickness of 9,6 mm, if we open it, each of the parts reduces the thickness by half.
This terminal arrives on the market with Android 10 and the Surface Duo customization layer, a layer of personalization that adds many of the features that we can find in the Surface range.
Availability and price
Microsoft's new commitment to mobile telephony within the professional field has priced at $ 1.399 for the 128GB version. As of September 1, it can be reserved and will begin to reach the first users on September 10. For now, it will initially be available in the United States for the business public.
As has happened with other products in the Surface range, chances are that until a second generation is released, if it finally does, this do not reach other countries.
It is not a mass phone
While the folding smartphones currently available on the market are aimed at the general public (as long as they can afford it) this terminal is oriented to the professional field thanks to the versatility offered by the integration that Microsoft has made of its entire ecosystem of applications.
