Sony plays with the possibility of bringing pure Android to its high-end devices

Sony

The Japanese company has been one of the manufacturers that in the past years has offered to let their phones have ROMs alternatives because it has offered bootloaders, kernel code and drivers to make it easier for the Android community to customize their terminals.

Apparently, Sony is considering whether to take another step in this regard providing ROMs with pure Android (AOSP) for your next high-end phones. If I took this step, it would undoubtedly become an option to take into account for many users, since the pure version of Android does not come without any custom layer, something that does occur in those of the different Android phone manufacturers.

Where does this idea come from?

In June, Alin Jerpelea from the CyanogenMod FreeXperia team participated in the development program and has been giving a talk at the XDA Devcon just this week about where Sony wants to go when it comes to ROM support in the future.

The key is that there a greater chance of Sony offering official support to AOSP ROMs for your most popular smartphones.

However, Jerpelea will only be working on the next ROM projects, which means that this possible development will be gradual and limited for a certain number of terminals. High-end phones are the ones that will mainly receive direct support, although there are already Sony AOSP versions for terminals such as the Xperia L, Z, ZL, S and Tablet Z.

Sony AOSP

Sony's goal is focused on the possibility that its future customers prefer a terminal from your company which enables the option of installing pure Android to one that has restrictions and is limited to installing custom ROMs.

Pure Android equals better terminal performance

By removing the custom layer that usually prevails in the different popular Android manufacturers, it means that the great potential that any of the high-end companies have as hardware, will offer higher performance by not having an extra load different apps running in the background.

Android One

He leaves those extras that the user himself wants to customize as he wishes the software of the phone deciding that launchers or apps of great weight work in your terminal. Apart from what it means to be able to install any of the most popular ROMs that exist or those that the community of a phone is developing and releasing for users to test.

This limit imposed by many manufacturers has been exceeded by the same OnePlus One that has the CyanogenMod ROM as its base, allowing us to retouch the phone as we want without any type of imposition. Having also to Android One on a range of phones that we will see from now on from different manufacturers with the default ROM without custom layers.

Now there is only that the operators also contribute their grain of sand And that they understand that their custom layer is usually a great nuisance for many, like the blocked bootloader, as it happens to the Xperia Z with Orange. Although you always have the possibility to send the phone to technical service, but this means a few days or weeks without running out of it.
