Qualcomm's mobile SoCs are the backbone of dozens of flagship smartphones that are released every year. The US-based chipmaker has a solid reputation for manufacturing top-notch CPUs along with reliable GPUs and modems. That is why everyone is looking forward to the long-awaited successor to the current Snapdragon 845 SoC.
While Qualcomm appears to be a bit behind this year, a report indicates that it is likely we could see the company's first 7nm chipset on December 4th. On that day, the company will hold an event at the Qualcomm Technology Summit and members of the Chinese press have received invitations with statements stating the following: "Dare to be the first 5G mobile experience."
The 3-day event will take place in Hawaii, and the invitation also contains a Xiaomi VR device with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821.
When it comes to the specs of the Snapdragon 8150, the current talk is that expected to come with tri-cluster CPU core design, similar to the Kirin 980. The alleged chipset was recently spotted on AnTuTu and scored an all-time high of 362,292 not seen on any other Android device. The only other CPU that can come close is Huawei's Kirin 980, which scored 311,840 points in the benchmark. The core architecture expected is as follows: there will be one large core clocked at 2,84 GHz, three middle cores clocked at 2,4 GHz, and finally four small efficiency cores clocked at 1,78 GHz . The GPU inside is believed to be the Adreno 640, which is 20 percent better than the previous version, the Adreno 630 of the SD845.
