Qualcomm has launched a new mobile platform, one that comes as a renewal and improvement of the already well-known Snapdragon 675, a chipset that was launched in mid-October 2018, so it already has just over two years in the market. The new piece we are talking about now has the name Snapdragon 678.

With the Snapdragon 678, Qualcomm plans that new mid-range smartphones adopt it, as it is focused on offering a very good performance, but not impressive, it is worth noting. This SoC shares some of the technical specifications that we found in the mentioned Snapdragon 675, and we highlight it below.

According to the table of characteristics and technical specifications, The Qualcomm Snapdragon 678 chipset is an eight-core piece built on the 11-nanometer LLP process. According to the official press release, the SoC offers a one-minute performance improvement over the predecessor. Consequently, it has a Kryo 460 CPU clocked at 2.2 GHz, compared to the Snapdragon 2,0's 675 GHz. The 678's GPU is the same Adreno 612, however, but Qualcomm says it has increased the performance of the itself, so this mobile platform should offer greater fluidity when playing games and multimedia content.

For cameras, it has a 250-bit Qualcomm Spectra 14L ISP chipset, which supports a single camera up to 192 MP and a single / dual camera with MFNR up to 25/16 MP, respectively. Qualcomm also mentions that the third-generation Qualcomm AI engine supports camera features like portrait mode, low light, laser autofocus, 4K video at 30fps, 5x optical zoom, slow motion (up to 1080p at 120fps), and more. It also supports HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) and has accelerated EIS support.
