Samsung Galaxy Tab, we tested it and gave our opinion

After Samsung Galaxy Tab unboxing that we left you a few days ago, it's your turn now after testing the terminal for a few days now, to comment on our impressions about it. Being able to test the Galaxy Tab has been possible thanks to maxmobile, online mobile phone store where you can get it at a very interesting price and free of ties to phone companies.

I am not going to go into the technical details of the “tablet” much since we have mentioned them countless times and here you can see them in detail. The most important thing to keep in mind is your 7-inch capacitive screen with a resolution of 1024 × 600 pixels, Cortex A8 processor with a speed of 1 Ghz and its companion PowerVR SGX540. It has a 3 Mpx rear camera and 1,3 Mpx front camera.

El Samsung Galaxy Tab It is the first serious attempt to compete with the famous Apple iPad and although the terminal more than fulfills its mission, I think it is fair to recognize that it still has a long way to go to be able to match the iPad. Although we have compared these two devices, I really think that they are two different ranges of tablets and intended for different uses. I would rate the Galaxy Tab as an electronic diary with multimedia capabilities, highly recommended for those who need the power of a Smartphone with the advantage of having 7 inches to view, manipulate and create office automation or similar documents. In addition to this, of course, it has the ability to play almost any multimedia format and the ability to make web browsing more comfortable than on 3,5-inch phones or similar.

Google has already commented on several occasions that the current version of Android known as Froyo is not the most recommended for this type of device and it really shows. To begin with, many applications are not optimized for use on screens larger than those of a phone and although we know that they can be enlarged with certain utilities in the Android Market, what is done is that, enlarging the image.

Although the web browsing is good, it can be greatly improved. Both the scroll and the action of zooming with the typical gesture of the two fingers is done with stumbling and not very smoothly or quickly. It is also true that all this can be improved and also that it is expected to improve with the arrival of both Gingerbread and Honeycomb.

It may be that the attitude of other companies delaying the exit of their terminals for when there is an adequate version of the operating system is the most correct. Samsung may have wanted to take advantage of being the first to launch a terminal of these characteristics knowing that it was not recommended.

Let's say something nice about Galaxy Tab and it is that it has the point in favor of its size. It is very manageable and bearable and although theoretically it can fit in a trouser or jacket pocket, in practice it is a bit difficult. The Tab will be carried like almost all these terminals in a suitcase, bag, etc ...

Everything concerning multimedia reproduction is carried out without problems, the reproduction of internet or stored videos does not represent any impediment for this device and also everything related to music. Likewise, the response of the screen is good but as we say with later versions of Android in theory it should improve something since this terminal also features Maxtouch sensors equal to the Galaxy S and how well they are performing.

As GPS is amazing and also thanks to its smaller size than tablets to use, it is easier to attach it to vehicle dashboards and of course Google Maps Navigation works like a charm.

The inclusion of the photographic camera and the corresponding front camera for making video calls I see it successful, it is not of great quality but for the use to which it is intended it is sufficient.

As we know, one of the things that most differentiates this tablet from the others that exist in the market is the incorporation of a 3G connection and the ability to make calls. As I mentioned at the beginning, if this terminal is used within a business or semi-business environment, the use of hands-free calls may find its place whenever we are inside the offices. I can not imagine anyone talking or calling with this terminal going down the street, also counting that it is not a substitute for the smartphone that we will almost certainly carry while using the Galaxy Tab. Is it a success to include it? If we have a Smartphone, I do not see the use of having an extra 3G connection in a tablet, being able to do tethering from the same personal phone.

As an electronic book reader, it is clear that it is more suitable than terminals with larger screens, both due to its lower weight when it comes to holding it in the air and its greater ease of transport.

In conclusion, I think the Galaxy Tab It is a type of terminal halfway between a phone and tablets that, due to the version of the operating system it carries, is currently closer to a phone than a tablet. When you receive an update to higher versions of Android you will surely earn integers. As a plus point, its smaller size makes it more bearable and easy to transport.

As I always say, before buying ask yourself what utility you want to give the terminal and then ask if what you intend to do with the device can be done with it.

What you indicate in the last paragraph seems fundamental to me, the first thing to do is consider what actions you want to carry out, and from there observe which devices are the best adapted. This means that we see what needs we want to cover, and not the other way around, we do not look for excuses to make sense of the use of the device.

It has been very useful to know its current limitations, from what I see we will have to wait for the new version of google.
