Samsung Galaxy S20 - Unboxing and First Impressions

Samsung's new "flagship" range. The South Korean firm took advantage of what was left of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, unfortunately canceled due to the health emergency, to present not one or two, but three new models. And this is how the new Samsung Galaxy S20 5G, the entry edition in the Galaxy S range of turn, has come to our hands. We have received it recently and we want to tell you about our first experience with this peculiar terminal from the South Korean firm with which it wants to dispel all the doubts created previously, will the S20 range be as successful as its predecessors?

A recognized and well-established design in the brand

Far from what has happened with the Z Flip and Galaxy Fold range, The South Korean firm did not want to play with its "flagship". It has presented a slight redesign that feels really good in the hand and that is also very familiar to us.

It is definitely less wide and longer than the previous Galaxy S10, with this Samsung has wanted to join the fashion of ultra-panoramic terminals (thus we give a little more sense to the Ultra Wide Angle), for that reason it has presented a terminal of 151,7 x 69,1 x 7,9 mm that weighing only 163 grams feels great in the hand. The curvature of the screen also helps a lot, reduced slightly to make it really useful, as well as at the back to facilitate grip. Samsung has done a great job in ergonomics and we have noticed it instantly.

Sections where Samsung never fails

If something is good for Samsung is to make screens, for something the main brands in the market tend to opt for their panels. For this, it has ended up mounting this 6,2-inch Dynamic AMOLED panel that has the maximum HDR10 + compatibility and with a QHD + resolution thus reaching 563PPP. The screen at first glance offers a very good contrast and color adjustment, without a doubt we are facing one of the best screens on the market, Especially if we take into account that Samsung has joined the 120 Hz trend but with nuances that we will tell you next week in our in-depth analysis. However, by default we find the FullHD setting at 120 Hz.

The same happens in the technical section, although given the choice we would always opt for the version with Snapdragon, in Spain we are satisfied with the very contrastadísimo Exynos 990 of 7nm manufactured by the brand itself (4 bits Octa-core at 2,73 + 2,6 + 2 GHz). In our first tests, moving Android 10 with Samsung's own OneUI interface is offering us a good result and we are relatively satisfied. We have been able to run games like PUBG with the highest possible graphics performance and without noticing any noticeable FPS drops.

Three sensors for all tastes

The rear camera looks with its rectangular module with curved angles, in it we find three sensors: Ultra Wide Angle 12 MP f / 2.2; Angular 12MP 1.8 OIS and a 64MP f / 2.0 OIS Telephoto. Among these sensors they are able to offer us a 3x hybrid zoom and a fully digital zoom of up to 30x, a real outrage that leaves us with a bittersweet taste in the first tests. Leaving the main sensor in low light conditions complicates the shots too much, although with correct lighting the results are very interesting.

As on other occasions, Samsung offers an application that is easy to use and adapted for all audiences. We have the possibility of recording in 8K with the rear camera, although by default we find the recording limited to FullHD resolution. We do not have a ToF sensor in the Galaxy S20 that we do have in its two older brothers and that is noticeable when it comes to profiling the depth. The Galaxy S20 is the smallest of the three and the camera is the main attraction in that regard. In the selfie camera we have 10MP f / 2.2 that defend quite well. Remember, you can find the in-depth camera analysis soon on our YouTube channel and on the web, stay tuned.

Autonomy and small details

We are already at work with autonomy, we have 15W wireless fast charging and fast cable charging of up to 45W despite the fact that the charger that is included in the box is 25W, itsenough to charge its 4.000 mAh in just over an hour plugged in, enough for standard use, but perhaps more is required from a terminal that costs 909 euros.

We have a fingerprint sensor built into the screen that offers a good reading but a somewhat rough animation. In the same way, another of the most relevant details is the fact that we have nothing less than technology 5G, LTE Category 20 and WiFi ac 4 × 4 MIMO. This is how Samsung hits the table at the level of connectivity and allows your Galaxy S20 to access the fastest and most powerful wireless connections available on the market, Are you ready for so much technology? We will tell you about it soon in the in-depth review of this device.
