Samsung presented in February the second launch of the Korean company in the world of folding smartphones, after the launch in 2019 of the Galaxy Fold, a terminal that was forced to delay its launch to the market until practically the last quarter of the year and that put some 500.000 units into circulation worldwide.
The Galaxy Z Flip is a totally different bet than what the Galaxy Fold offers us, although they both share a folding screen. The coronavirus has caused a general drop in sales among most manufacturers, including the Galaxy S20, a model that is well below the initial expectations that the company had, quite the opposite of the Z Flip.
The Galaxy Z Flip was introduced in early February reaching a small group of countries on February 14 for 1.500 euros ($ 1.399 in the United States). According to the guys from SamMobile, who have had access to a report published by EconoTimes, during the month of March, Samsung sold 230.000 Galaxy Z Flip, figures that suppose an increase of 56,1% compared to the month of its launch. If the coronavirus had not paralyzed practically the whole world, it is more than likely that those figures would be much higher.
These figures cannot be compared with the sales of other cheaper terminals of the company and they will not have a great impact on the annual sales figures of the Korean company, but it does represent a accolade to this type of folding terminals, especially of the shell type, implying that the market is already mature enough to adopt them easily and quickly.
Another thing is the price. This first generation is available for 1.500 euros, but next year's model, it will probably be cheaper, and this will continue to happen as the cost of manufacturing flexible screens decreases, so it will be increasingly common to see this type of terminal on the street.
The only terminal that today can stand up to the Galaxy Z Flip is the Motorola RAZR, a terminal that is several steps below the Samsung model, not only in quality of materials and finish, but also in terms of power, performance and price.
