Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi adopt Android for their cars and integrate Google apps

Brands

A whole great news for our cars to include factory Android and without retouching or various customizations. That is, if you have a Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi, you can have Google apps built into your car to enjoy Google Maps, Google Assistant and many others.

Until today the major car manufacturers have been very reluctant to incorporate Android in a fully integrated way in their vehicles. Yes, we can pair our phones, but without going too far in that integration. This will change forever when in two or three years we see cars on our streets totally "smart" thanks to Android and Google.

The Android trio: Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi

Those who have been reluctant to incorporate Android fully integrated and Google apps like AssistantIt is because any car collects a large amount of information about the engine and the driving style of many users. It is for this very reason that it has been slow to incorporate the big G in different brands; even Volkswagen is spending huge amounts of money to create its own system for its vehicles.

Nissan

Although it will not be a matter of long time that, due to the agreement carried out by Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi, get on the Android bandwagon and you can use Google Maps fully integrated into your vehicle's system.

And for Google it is a great victory, since it will be able to integrate its system again in major brands to give a better user experience to its millions of users and at the same time collect very important data. We assume that there they will have to reach agreements with the big G to decide what they can get or not.

For the next cars of the three brands

It was yesterday when Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi announced that their future models will integrate Google services and applications, including Maps and Google Assistant, in their vehicles.

Renault

The report was given by Wall Street Journal and shows the great turn taken by these three brands when other behemoths in the automotive sector continue to give their denials to fully incorporate new technologies. This is due, as we have said, to losing control of customer relationships, data and a significant benefit of connected services.

On the one hand we have Volvo Cars that has decided to integrate Android Auto on their vehicles, but the scale of what was announced by Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi will cause another way to understand costly technology strategies that often take hundreds of millions of euros down the road in costs.

Some totally "smart" cars

Until today, car manufacturers had relegated in Linux, Microsoft or QNX to offer their own navigation systems. These platforms are sparse in functionality and offer very little space to add new apps that offer new experiences.

Incorporating apps like Google Maps would be a breakthrough, although it would be a serious problem for navigation specialists like TomTom. It is precisely Renault that has always counted as a customer. We will see where everything is for each other.

Maps

For us there would be many benefits, since We could have all kinds of apps loaded in the car such as Spotify, Google Maps, Android Auto, Google Assistant and many others. And surely these vehicles would be adapted to incorporate the necessary accessories to be able to leave our devices on the dashboard or a good number of connections such as USB type-C and much more.

We can forget about that little user experience they offer now a good number of brands by letting us pair our smartphones through Bluetooth. To take a leap towards using Google Assistant to display the destination that we have ordered when we were at home.

It will be for the year 2012 when Renault's first Android-equipped vehicles will be launched on the market. We do not know more, just hope that other brands ally with Apple to do the same while those first Renault cars arrive.
