If you want to take top quality photos, the Redmi K30 Pro Zoom Edition is one of the best options [Camera Review]

Redmi K30 Pro Zoom Edition Camera Review by DxOMark

At the end of March, Xiaomi launched the REDM K30 Pro Edition Zoom, a mobile that is currently listed by DxOMark as one of the 10 best smartphones to take photos with the rear camera, which in this case is quadruple.

DxOMark, as is customary with most of the most popular and relevant terminals in the smartphone industry, has taken it to test how good its main photographic section is, and the results have been remarkable.

The Redmi K30 Pro Zoom Edition stands out as a phone with a great rear camera

With an overall camera score of 120 in the DxOMark database and thanks to a quadruple combo of a 64 MP main sensor + 13 MP wide angle + 8 MP telephoto + 2 MP bokeh sensor, the Xiaomi Redmi K30 Pro Zoom Edition is located in the last position of the top 10 of the ranking, right behind Xiaomi's Mi CC9 Pro, which has a trademark of 121. A solid score of 129 photos means you can be sure to deliver excellent still image quality, without any serious flaws.

The global attributes of exposure and color are handled very well. The generally accurate exposure, wide dynamic range, neutral white balance, and good color saturation ensure pleasant results in almost all lighting conditions. The texture / noise compromise is well controlled as well.

Autofocus is perfect, with fast response times that ensure you capture an image as soon as prompted, and no glitches were observed during any of the tests, says DxOMark.

The most obvious problems relate to HDR images, where "ghosting" on moving objects, along with unusual texture rendering in some areas, can be a bit annoying.

The K30 Pro Zoom's dedicated ultra-wide camera is a bit average overall., but without serious flaws. The 16mm lens offers a respectable field of view, although serious wide-angle shooters may prefer something a bit wider. At its default focal length, the exposure is not as good as the main camera, with slightly low exposures and dynamic range, but it is acceptable and the color is still good. However, noise is visible, even in outdoor images, and details are low, which is especially true towards the edges of the frame. On the positive side, geometric distortion and anamorphosis are well controlled.

If you are looking for a well-priced smartphone with excellent zoom, you won't go wrong with the Redmi K30 Pro Zoom. Combining images from your main or telephoto cameras depending on the magnification requested, this offers well-defined detail at all focal lengths.

Exposure and color are very good when you zoom, along with well-controlled noise and no obvious artifacts. The zoom images are not as detailed at long range (~ 8x), compared to the best of other phones in the ranking, but they are still more than acceptable, beating many phones at a similar price (~ 600 euros). The telecamera excels in the mid-range with a magnification of around 5x.

When shooting in portrait mode, the K30 Pro Zoom's bokeh shots are also among the best that have been reviewed by the DxOMark team of experts, with the Xiaomi device posting close to a high score.

Importantly, the effect is consistent and repeatable, with an attractive background blur effect, nice spotlights, good subject segmentation, and a natural blur gradient. Unfortunately, the HDR function doesn't seem to work in portrait mode, which is disappointing. However, this is only a small quibble about an excellent bokeh mode, the platform highlights.

The device is capable of capturing very pleasant cityscapes in low light, but with less successful flash portraits. With the flash off, cityscapes are generally well exposed and have good color. Details are a bit low and some noise is seen, but overall, those at DxOMark claim to be satisfied with the results.

When the flash is turned on for a portrait photo, although the exposure and noise achieved are good, the rendering of skin tone is slightly off-putting, red-eye occurs, and details are low.

How good is it for recording video?

The Xiaomi Redmi K30 Pro Zoom achieved a overall video rating of 101 points. That's just a couple of points behind the more expensive devices at the top of the rankings, like the Huawei P40 Pro, which managed to record a score of 105 points.

The adaptive frame rate offering 60fps in bright light is a real benefit in capturing fluid motion and reducing vibration, and once again the autofocus is very good. In fact, it is excellent at still videos. In the video section, and in all the categories included in this, the phone also stands out.
