Qualcomm clarifies why Nougat will not reach some devices

Z3

We have been a little strange with the news that the Xperia Z3 will not have Android 7.0 Nougat for a terminal that would be about to turn 24 months after it was released. Those devices with the Snapdragon 800 and 801 chips will run out of Nougat and it has a reason for being as stated by Qualcomm.

There are a few Samsung, Sony, LG, Motorola, ZTE and OnePlus the devices not graced with that Android 7.0 that would already be preparing to be launched in the coming months to other terminals that will receive it. For the clarification from Qualcomm, the decision has finally been from the manufacturers themselves not to follow the update cycle, since they offer support to the different versions of Android.

Qualcomm's statement:

Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. works closely with our OEM customers to implement and support the various versions of Android through our Snapdragon chips. Chip time extension is supported and OS upgradeable versions available to consumers depends on the product life cycle manufacturer. We recommend that you contact the device manufacturer or carrier for any information related to Android 7.0 Nougat

So it's not Qualcomm, but OEMs who have decided that devices with Snapdragon 800 and S801 are already old. Anyway, the idea remains that even if those manufacturers wanted to roll out the updates, they would not be able to pass the Google CTS (Compatibility Test Suide).

So doubts arise to know who is responsible that those terminals are left without Nougat, a version of Android that will provide better battery autonomy and that is surely a great claim to sell more smartphones, which in the end is what it is all about.

The idea is that you buy another cell phone and spend 600 dollars every 20 months. Only we can do this ourselves, not buying mobile phones or sponsoring Chinese phones that are cheaper and with better support.
