El Night Mode is becoming one of the most important weapons in the arsenal of a smart phone camera these days, combining multiple exposures with smart algorithms. There is probably no better night mode than the Pixel 3.
The Apple iPhones they lack this feature at the moment, but it wouldn't be crazy to see a future version of iOS that offers this functionality. This could be a boon for older iPhones as well, giving Apple's legacy devices a welcome boost in low-light situations. But until then, the Pixel 3 seems to rule the segment when the sun goes down, and this is proven by the comparison published in a tweet by 'marvin show' (@theREALmarvin).
The scene, which shows a model standing in front of a neon-lit scene at night, appears ideal for night view mode. The Pixel 3 managed to deliver a brighter overall scene, clearly showing the face, clothes and other elements of the woman. But the buildings in the background were also brighter and more detailed in the Google photo, except for a few lights out. You can even see a brighter sky (but not too loud). Meanwhile the photo the apple phone takes was much darker overallas the model appears silhouetted against the neon environment. The woman's face is almost completely dark and her clothing does not retain the same rich color as Google's effort. However, the iPhone XS photo managed to tame the lighting in the background, while Google prioritized the model. But based on the fact that we have an obvious subject in the viewer, I would say that Google's phone certainly made the right decision.
