A few days ago, we published an article in which we informed you of the latest rumor related to the next generations of smartwatches from the Korean company Samsung, rumors that could adopt on Wear OS as operating system on upcoming models. Today we are talking about a news item that would confirm this possible change.
Ivan Meler, developer collaborating with XDA Developer, has found new references to Wear OS adoption in Samsung's range of smartwatches through the Galaxy S20 kernel source code, a code that is described as using a Broadcom BCM 43013 chip similar to the one found in the Galaxy Watch 3.
The problem with this information is that it has been extracted from the kernel source code of the Galaxy S20 that Samsung published a year ago. In a year things can change a lot and the Korean company may have included that code in case in the future, it planned to adopt Wear OS.
A proof of this is that in the kernel source code after One UI 3.1, there is no trace, so it is likely that that idea has been discarded or other projects have been renamed with the code name Wise or Fresh, two names that sound like they are related to the next smartwatches of the Korean company.
Wear OS, the further the better
The reason Samsung might opt for Wear OS is related to the number of applications available a problem that Samsung perfectly solves with all the functionalities that it offers natively.
Particularly, I highly doubt Samsung is going to opt for an operating system that Google has abandoned, an operating system with which the search giant has missed a golden opportunity.
