Motion is an app with which you can record fascinating stop-motion videos

Motion

The world of animation, before 3D existed, used various techniques to fool the human eye and thus create smooth and eye-catching animations. What can we say about Walt Disney, Warner and many others who opened the world to animation to offer all kinds of funny stories. Within these techniques there is a so-called stop motion and they consist of pretending the movement of static objects through a series of successive still images. Many of the clay movies are made with this technique, and surely the Nightmare Before Christmas and Coraline will quickly remind you of this technique.

As this technique uses a camera to record all the shots, having a mobile device we have in our hand one of the main tools to create stop motion. What we have left is an app that encourages us with this technique and makes it easier for us. This is where Motion comes into play, a really striking Android app that will help you make those stop motion videos with which to dazzle your friends and family. Let's say that you will be in charge of placing the objects so that of the rest it is Motion that does a great job. And who knows if thanks to this app you will discover a new world in animation.

Stop motion animation in your hand

Surely the ancients filmmakers specialized in animation Had they had a smartphone like the one we have today, their productivity would have increased considerably. Many times we forget what we have in hand, and that camera on your device can give a lot of play. A game that, in these summer holidays, can allow you to spend a few hours devising a short short of several minutes that you will make with this app called Motion.

Motion makes things simple without much fanfare and without complicating the user's life. It will ask you to shoot a series of frames, select the speed of the video (up to 30 frames per second) and it will create a video on the spot. Those 30 frames can be changed to be 12, since in classic animation each second contained 12 drawings, based on key positions and collations, so with a little idea we can create great animations if we have the holy patience to move the object a little each time we make a new shot. If we have a mobile tripod, all the better.

The app itself

Motion, the moment we launch it, puts us in front of an empty screen in which we encourages creating a new project from the plus sign that is located in the upper right. The next screen asks us to press the camera button to start capturing the frames. It is the only button we have available, so we go to it. When we already have the camera app open, we have the shutter button and a timer that we can configure to take a photo every few seconds (10, 20, 30 and 1 minute).

Stop Motion

With the frames already taken, the two options that were shaded are now open to us: frame rate and playback. For the animation to be smooth, many frames are needed, although if you reduce the FPS to 12 frames per second, even if you take 3 shots, the animation will improve considerably. When you have configured these parameters, you can download the video to the gallery with a notification that informs you of the progress of the video processing.

Actually, Motion makes it very easy to create a video to later share. If we then have an app to create animated GIFs, we can create one from that video so that it is better shared. In itself, it is a high quality app that is focused on ease of use, so I recommend you try it, since it is available for free from the Play Store.

The app was not found in the store. 🙁

    Hello,
the app is fine, but for some reason it doesn't let me see the work I've done until exporting it,
so I can't edit, add or remove frames etc.
    What I can do?
