Meizu M5, analysis and opinion

There are manufacturers like Meizu that they are managing to gain a foothold in a market as saturated as that of telephony by presenting very complete telephones at demolition prices.

We have already tried some of their solutions, such as the Meizu M3 Notes, now it's the turn of the Meizu M5, an entry-level product that you can find for 150 euros on Amazon.

Meizu M5

Before starting to talk about design, I want to make one thing clear: the Meizu M5 is very similar to the iPhone 5c. That's bad? Not at all, I even see it as a plus for those people looking for an alternative to Apple solutions.

The Chinese manufacturer has opted for a classic design for the front, with a single button under the screen that houses the fingerprint sensor and that also serves to navigate the interface using gestures.

In terms of materials, it seems that the M5 does not have any protective glass, but what I can at least confirm its 2.5D rounded edges to give the device undeniable appeal and enhance the touch.

Meizu M5

Say the phone it is quite comfortable and lightTo have a 5.2-inch screen, it is a fairly manageable terminal, and its 138 grams of weight make the Meizu M5 fall very well in the hand.

Side buttons offer good travel, the front part is well used to be an entry-level range and in general it complies with what is expected of a phone that does not reach 150 euros.

Meizu M5

Technically we are in front of an entry-level telephone. No more. Your configuration us it will allow moving games or applications that do not require large resources but if we install a fairly cutting edge game, the phone will be able to move it, but with little fluidity. Let us remember that this terminal will serve perfectly to meet the needs of any user who wants a smartphone to browse the internet, social networks and give it a very conventional use.

Highlight its powerful 3.070 mAh battery. In the tests that I have been doing during the time that I have tested this terminal I have been able to confirm that without a doubt this section is the most interesting of this Meizu M5.

The phone has lasted two days when I have used it very moderately and in those days in which I have needed to squeeze the most out of the M5, within its possibilities, it has reached me without problems a day and a half. Of course, there is no sign of fast charging, although with such a good autonomy, it is not worth worrying about that aspect.

Meizu M5

Meizu did not want the price to rise too much in its new M5, so in some sections it was time to remove the scissors, and one of them has been the screen. For this they have decided to choose a solvent panel, with good quality and that ensures a good user experience, preventing prices from skyrocketing.

For this, the manufacturer has opted for a panel 5.2-inch IPS and HD720p resolution, with 282 pixels per inch and that has good definition and high-quality whites. In general, the colors look very natural, but the blacks are not too deep and especially the brightness, very low in my opinion, weighs down the user experience a bit, especially on very sunny days.

We cannot forget its fingerprint sensor that offers quite good performance for the price range in which this Meizu M5 moves. The fingerprint has usually been recognized quickly, although I have to say that more than once I have had to put my finger several times, but nothing out of the ordinary in a phone to get started in the Android universe.

Of course, its interface still does not like me at all. And it is that Flyme OS is not Android. Nor does it come close to user experience. Ok, the idea of using the fingerprint sensor instead of the capacitive buttons I like, but the fact that the custom layer of the Asian manufacturer is so far from what we are used to is a subject that I do not quite like. Why the obsession with looking like an iPhone?

Does Flyme have good things? Obviously yes and once you get used to it it is a fairly complete system with some very interesting details. But it doesn't look like an Android terminal. As simple as that.

Camera

Meizu M5

Finally I am going to talk about the Meizu M5 cameras. To begin with, the terminal has a 5-megapixel front camera, in addition to a 13-megapixel rear camera.

Highlight that the camera interface of the Meizu M5 has a good number of options, including the almost essential professional mode that allows us to manually configure different parameters of the terminal such as white balance or depth.

The phone makes about decent photos, but without much fanfare. In well-lit environments we can take acceptable shots, with vivid and sharp colors, although you do not expect immense quality.

When night falls or use the camera indoors you will immediately see that the dreaded noise appears and that the quality of the captruas declines significantly, which makes it clear that the Meizu M5 camera is not its strong point, far from it. Of course, it will get you out of more than one hurry.

Conclusions

Meizu M5

We are facing an entry-level phone that offers some very interesting things, especially that so attractive design, a endless autonomy and a sfingerprint sensor, something difficult to find in an entry range.

The camera is not the best on the market, but it will get you out of a lot of trouble. My real but? Flyme, a customization so vastly different from Android that It seems that we are facing a terminal that does not use the Google operating system.
