LG Optimus Black (II) review

After Part in which we talk about the physical part of the terminal, hardware and components, in this second part  let's talk a little about the operation of the phone, software and user experience that it provides us.

This terminal incorporates the Android OS version 2.2.2. This version of Froyo is the latest in this version. Gingerbread upgrade? Nobody knows (bets accepted). With this version of the operating system the terminal is more than good. No program compatibility issues, but of course, you run out of some more than interesting options such as the video / audio option in Gtalk and some other, and of course, keep the terminal with the latest options and Google system security.

El graphical environment of the phone is identical to that of the LG Optimus 2x. Simple and useful. No excessive frills in terms of animations and graphics it means. Some widgets, the necessary ones so as not to fill your desktop with screens and that the battery drains quickly. You can always add more widgets of your own with one of the many applications in the Market that include widgets.

LG incorporates customized programs for social networks, such as Twitter or Facebook, and what the possibility of configuring it so that it synchronizes the contacts of the agenda with our social profiles. It incorporates LG's own applications such as Economy, App Advisor or the app for the weather, that will allow you to use your phone better. It also brings the option to use the program «Remote call»That offers you the possibility of having remote assistance on your LG so that they can help you from technical support. It also comes with 'SmartShare'which will allow you to interconnect compatible devices to be able to share multimedia content in a single click. Of course it comes with multimedia applications to play audio and video, image gallery, and all Google's own apps, like Gtalk, Gmail or Youtube. Highlight, in case it happens to someone else, that they are not caught off guard, that it seems that the email program that the terminal brings, gives problems with some MS Exchange email accounts. The company email does not work for me and from what I have been able to verify, neither for a colleague. You should be careful with this if you are going to use this terminal for your work.

The camera works quite well, although it is difficult to get used to its operation (especially those of us who come from Sense). The images have a more than acceptable quality to speak of a 5MPx sensor. The 2MPx front camera also works well for video calling through messaging apps.

At first it is quite difficult to get hold of all the options available with the G button, and the possibilities that this offers. I really liked the possibility of directly access the camera via the G button by simply shaking the phone. It is also useful to rotate the screen when we are browsing.

Highlight the operation of the 4 ″ NOVA screen that brings the phone. It is incredibly bright outdoors. You will not have any problem to see what it says on the terminal in any type of light conditions you have. It is quite appreciated now in summer that there is much more sun and that in many telephones it is impossible to dial a number to make a call.

I must also say that I have noticed that like some HTCs, this terminal it also loses WiFi signal if it is grabbed at the top. It is not much, but in cases of poor WiFi coverage it can be important. At the moment I have noticed the problem using the B / G signal. Perhaps, as with other phones, in WiFi N it is not noticeable.

Finally, review that the battery does not offer as much capacity as I expected. 1500mAh should give much more autonomy from which I am experimenting with this phone. I'm not sure but it could be due to the NOVA screen, although LG claims that NOVA screens consume less than LCDs on other phones. I have to continue in this aspect to get a clearer impression on the capacity of the battery.

As for games and others, I have managed to install some Gameloft HD game to be able to test the performance of the phone. There is no lag or any kind of problem to play on it. With free games, of course you can enjoy them as much as you want. Have enough memory on the phone to install a few.

Making a benchmarking with the Quadrant we get a score always close to 1300 points. This score causes it to be placed above the HTC Desire S, direct competitor. It obtains similar results in the graphic part although it is ahead in the hardware part.

Summarizing, Would I recommend to my friends the purchase of this terminal? Most of them do. It gains a lot its size, weight, and above all, the piece of screen. The brightness outdoors is amazing. It looks very very good. Loses points in terms of the operating system. It should have come out with Ginger already on the market, although they claim to update it. The Lightweight makes it seem that the materials used will be of poor quality, but nothing is further from the truth, it has a very good finish. Sure, this phone compared to the dual cores has nothing to do in terms of hardware power, but for most cases, it more than delivers. It will be a competitor of the aforementioned Desire S, or of the new versions of the Galaxy S or a model of the Xperia family.

Good phone from LG that is sure to be a tough competitor for the Android market that we currently have.

I leave you some tests of the Optimus Black camera:

    Benchmarks are very misleading
The GPU is an SGX 530, just like the Galaxy SCL or the Motorola Droid.
On the other hand, that of the desire s far exceeds this, the benchmarks vary a lot.

The update to Gingerbread has been "confirmed" by LG several times for September.
It is going very well, although the RAM management is not good at all (opening various things starts to go slow and bad), and there is almost no support from the community. At the moment, no ROMs or anything serious.

    : )

We cannot trust too much neither with the bechmarks nor with the published hardware data (never complete, companies are reluctant to give complete information about their terminals).
I mean that if the benchmarks are not reliable, neither is knowing the hardware you have. The SGX530 can be more powerful than the Adreno 205 (technically superior) of another mobile, depending on aspects that are not usually published such as the frequency of work.

Hello. I have downloaded Skype and make video calls to any PC without problems. I have not had to configure anything, the video has directly detected the sound, etc. without having to do anything. Try that application to see how it is….
      Greetings.
