IFA14: The best Smartwatch, the worst and the great disappointment

IFA14 poster

After a few days of hectic activity in Europe's largest consumer technology fair, IFA14 which was held last week in the German capital Berlin. I wanted to make this sort of Ranking based on my personal impressions at the fair, in which I want to tell you what, according to my personal opinion, the best Smartwatch the worst and the great disappointment of these new wareables presented at IFA14 and that we will soon be able to purchase in different specialized stores around the world.

I say again that this ranking is built from my own point of view, with the devices that we were able to test and with a somewhat critical tone, even with the terminals that, according to my humble opinion, are the most recommended of the moment and occupy the top of the list. So you know, if you want to know what it is the best IFA14 Smartwatch, the worst and the great disappointment, continue reading this article.

The best IFA14 Smartwatch

In the first position of this ranking we would have two very different terminals tied, on the one hand, Samsung's risky bet with its Samsung S Gear, a smart watch with Tizen operating system that left us with a very good taste in our mouths. IFA14. I say about the risky bet, because even though it is one of the best Smartwatch that we were able to test exclusively at the German technology fair, moving away from Android and its Android Wear, we see little future in this experiment by the Korean multinational. And more, knowing how other bets of the style of Samsung Wave and its BADA operating system, that although it promised a lot in the beginning, in the end it ended up being practically abandoned by Samsung.

Even so, due to its construction materials, finishes, operating system performance, user interface, technical specifications or functionalities; We have to give him without a doubt a vote of confidence and grant him the title of the best IFA14 Smartwatch tied on points with the next protagonist, who is none other than the LG G Watch R.

In second position tied on points with the Samsung Gear S we would find ourselves at LG G Watch R, a terminal that, in terms of design, construction materials, experience with the operating system, user interface and technical specifications deserves to hand the second position in the ranking.

A quality evolution of its successful G Watch, where everything has been improved with respect to the previous model; from elegant new circular design, through the inclusion of a heart rate sensor that, lately it is becoming so fashionable, until reaching the improvement of the capacity of its battery. For all the above, it is undoubtedly worthy of the second position of this ranking, which I repeat, is built from my own experiences lived in the IFA14 from Berlin.

The great disappointment of the IFA14, Motorola's Moto 360

After many months speculating about the new Motorcycle 360The team Androidsis, was able to experience first-hand the peculiarities that this Smartwatch of the American multinational, that if one thing has been successful, without a doubt, it is in its elegant very minimalist circular design, in which the quality of its construction material prevails. A metal body and design with plenty of accessories available, albeit clouded by what is for me one of the most glaring UI design flaws in recent years.

As you can see in the image above, this spectacular design praised by all, has a tremendous flaw that makes the user interface I did not finish filling or completing the sphere of the Moto 360 leaving a horizontal band at the bottom of the terminal that totally breaks with the elegant design of this expected Motorola Smartwatch.

IFA14: The best Smartwatch, the worst and the great disappointment

Although in everything else it is an exceptional Smartwatch; Until this aspect of the severed interface is fixed, probably a fix that arrives quickly in update mode via OTA, we have to grant it the title of the great disappointment of the FA14 as far as smart watches are concerned.

The worst Smartwatch of the IFA14

Little and much to say about the new and disappointing Sony Smartwatch called simply Smartwatch 3. A smart watch, which arrives with A and that, just by looking at it, it seems that it is going to break. A Smartwatch that looks like a toy, made entirely of plastic; that does not tell us anything about its square and flat design that reminds us or does not make us forget, the first Smartwatches launched by the Japanese multinational a few years ago.

We weren't even able to make a video review of the product since, the sensations that it gave us at the fair left much to be desired, and more coming from having seen and tested other terminals that were presented at the IFA14, such as the Gear S from Samsung or the LG G Wacht R. So, even though I'm very sorry for it, since we expected something more from Sony in this field of smartwatches with Android Wear, I have had to give it the title of worst Smartwatch of the IFA14.

No, the black band cannot be fixed, simply because it is not software. There is the brightness sensor, neither more nor less. Motorola explained it to the verge a few months ago, on google io.

Well then it is a real botch in terms of design, it takes away all the elegance with the bloody cut in the user interface.
Other Smartwatches like the G Watch R, which is circular in design, also have this type of integrated sensor and therefore the user interface and the aesthetics of the product are not destroyed.

    Greetings friend.

Fix the black band by OTA !! Learn a little before writing man, people read to you and they can spend 250 euros for your words. Another thing you say wrong, the G Watch R does not have an ambient light sensor. If what really disappoints you about the Moto 360 is only the detail of the black band, it shows that you have not been very attentive, because it is something that has been known for months, since the watch was shown for the first time. And as for everything else being an exceptional smartwatch ... For me, everything else really disappoints: tiny battery, unknown processor, slow response ...

Certainly I have lost the pot with the fix via OTA I wanted to say that without a doubt this will be fixed in new versions of the Moto360 by renewing its design.
As for the lag that you comment, nothing is further from reality since it is one of the most fluid that we could test at the IFA.

    Greetings.

Did we forget the Asus Smartwatch? It seems to me that in relation to quality / design / price, it gives them a thousand turns.

True, although this post is understood only with the terminals that we were able to test at IFA14. The Asus unfortunately did not give us time to test it.

      Greetings friend.
