Huawei P40 Pro: Camera Review and Test

What is promised is a debt, last week we did the unboxing and the first impressions of the new Huawei P40 Pro, the flagship terminal of the Asian company that was presented within all this maelstrom of confusing news. As on every occasion, we carry out the unboxing and we place you here just a week later so that we can test it in great detail to bring you our most honest opinion. We have been working for a while on the new Huawei P40 Pro and we bring you our in-depth review with the camera test, discover its characteristics with us.

As we have already talked about the technical and numerical data before, now we are going to focus on our user experience, only in what the device has made us feel on a day-to-day basis.

The curvy design, risky and pretty

Huawei wanted to give the P40 Pro a breath of fresh air, which still maintains a certain resemblance to the previous range, which constantly reminds us of where it comes from, but has nevertheless risked something to be thankful for in the current market. We first find a new curvature now in upper to lower areas, something that helps us take advantage of even more screen, but that will wreak havoc on the hobbies of those who do not quite adapt to screens with pronounced curvatures.

For its part, the device has gained weight compared to the P3o Pro, but its design makes it more ergonomic if possible. Mainly we find differences in the new freckle system for the camera and the face scanner of the screen, which you may like more or less, but that Huawei has managed to integrate well with the user interface with its status bar, perhaps other brands should learn a lot in this regard. Definitely this Huawei P40 Pro is a terminal that feels good in the hand and is comfortable, Despite how often happens in these glass terminals, they tend to attract fingerprints with great ease.

More than enough power

At a technical level, we know very well its processor from other previous models of the same company, however, doubts are generated, since now we must run more screen resolution and a higher refresh rate. However, as with the previous model, the P40 Pro is ahead of its times, we have not encountered any problems of use.

In short, we have not been able to find an application that resists this Huawei P40 Pro, we have played PUBG, Fortnite and other games with total fluidity, both in navigation and in the rest of the sections, spare power in this terminal.

Connectivity goes one step further

We have a clear difference with its previous brother and that is that we now have the 5G telecommunications processor of the Asian company. This guarantees us much more than having 5G connectivity on our device, something that really does not have much practical use today because few companies offer 5G connection and even less are the areas where we can access such an exclusive product. However, we cannot forget that we have NFC and most importantly, WiFi 6.

This WiFi connection 6 shown three times as fast on poor connections in our tests, we've had fantastic results compared to the other devices we've had here lately. On the other hand, Needless to say, the Huawei Share and the Huawei Beam provide us with significant added value when it comes to having a wireless connectivity environment that only companies like Apple are able to offer. Definitely and despite not having a 3,5mm Jack, we have connectivity for a while in almost all aspects and this is a detail to take into account.

Multimedia section and autonomy

The panel has grown a little and now we have a slightly higher brightness than before with a more noticeable color saturation, but we can't say it's an extravagant difference either. In the sound section we have the deficiency of the upper speaker behind the screen, therefore we have a somewhat decaffeinated stereo sound and that is noticeable when we cover the speaker at the bottom. However, in the section on sound andThis Huawei P40 Pro has also improved at the volume level and especially at the level of sound quality, noticeably better.

Regarding autonomy, 4.200 mAh that do not suffer despite the rQHD + resolution and 90Hz refresh rate that make the experience very bearable, compatible with multiple HDR capabilities and above all with exuberant quality. We have 40W fast charging and reversible wireless charging. Definitely the battery management of EMUI 10.1 is still of quality, we easily exceed six hours of screen so that we are facing the high end with one of the best autonomies in the market.

Camera test

The cameras of this Huawei P40 Pro have seemed to me simply and simply the most complete on the market to date:

  • 50MP f / 1.9 RYYB sensor
  • 40MP f / 1.8 Ultra Wide Angle
  • 8MP telephoto with 5x zoom
  • ToF 3D sensor

The result of the main sensor in normal conditions is overwhelming, 50MP and an absolute contrast and almost professional saturation that allow us to enlarge the photo and continue to obtain a lot of detail. The same happens with the Ultra Wide Angle, which exceeds the previous version in information and continues to maintain a very high quality, despite the fact that they are usually the most affected sensors in these matters.

Night photography is still a point where Huawei places a lot of emphasis and we have obtained fantastic results in almost all conditions, although obviously we lose detail in the way that we use the Zoom, however, even in these cases it is still surprising.

For its part, the selfie camera offers as always an accentuated beauty mode even when we deactivate it, but it is capable of capturing a lot of information and offering a very high quality video. Regarding video recording, we detect that it always offers us the Wide Angle as the first option when opening this function (why?), We have a recording Very stabilized 4K (one of the best advances of Huawei) in all the sensors and obviously we find noise if the light falls, We recommend you watch our video to check it. In terms of slow motion, Huawei continues to grow its chest, yes, it requires a lot of lighting to obtain decent results at its maximum rates.
