We have three sensors, one of 40 MP with f / 2.8, another of 20 MP with f / 2.2 and another of 8MP with f / 2.4, that together they work extraordinarily well. The first thing that catches our attention is that we went from having a classic Zoom x2 like the one that many competitive terminals have, to enjoying a Zoom x3 and another spectacular Zoom x5, all thanks to the combination of the telephoto lens and the wide angle lens with the one that counts its set of cameras.

The combination of its HDR hand in hand with artificial intelligence and the huge number of shooting modes and software support that Huawei's camera application has and that you can see in detail in our video-analysis offers a very good experience. HDR helps us to improve the range of colors it captures, eliminating excess brightness, something already common in other terminals. The truth is that Artificial Intelligence mode hasn't shown us to be much better In general, good hands when taking the picture, honestly, it is limited to highlighting the colors depending on the type of capture we take and the amount of light it receives, perhaps it is preferable to opt for a more natural capture. While at the recording level we find the possibility of obtaining 4K / 30FPS or 1080p / 120FPS resolutions with Zoom x3 with a fairly good stabilization as you can see in the video-analysis. At the video level, this Huawei Mate 20 Pro does not disappoint, how could it be otherwise. In our day to day we have found a worse result at the level of sound capture, while the video is highly post-processed by software, which generates a slight «Delay» between what we see on screen and what we are capturing, but that is appreciated as soon as you take the first look at the captured content. We remember that we will be able to obtain slow motion videos of up to 960 FPS.

We go to the front camera, where Huawei also stands out from other currents and decides to include only one sensor, also supported by its artificial intelligence. This front sensor also allows us to take pictures in portrait mode with almost all the capabilities that we find in the rest of the sensors, however, we find that it suffers from the same problem as many other Asian terminals, too much software in "beauty mode" that even deactivated makes us have a much more neat face than we actually have. However, this front camera is going to require a little more "skill" on the part of the user to obtain quality results, it seems too random to get an ideal result, and that can cause you some despair if you are well used to the performance of its main cameras.

Autonomy and software: When it seemed impossible, Huawei did it

This Mate 20 Pro includes a battery of 4.200 mAh That surprisingly does not affect the thickness or weight of the device, in fact, I find it difficult to believe that they would have put that battery there if it were not for the fact that the real autonomy of the device is simply spectacular. That is why we easily get to the second day of use without having to drag a cable. But Huawei has taken care that charging this Mate 20 Pro is not a problem. For it It has equipped us with a fast charger that is capable of giving us almost two days of autonomy with just 58 minutes of charging ... In this section I can only say "chapeau".

Wireless charging is not far behind, also available in its "fast" version that fully charges the phone in just over two and a half hours. But be careful, the surprises do not end here. The adjustment system that EMUI includes for the battery allows us to adjust a wireless charging system in reverse, that is, you will be able to charge any terminal compatible with the Qi system just by bringing it closer to your Huawei Mate 20 Pro, discussions with friends at coffee time are served.

However, EMUI can boast of simplicity, but also of certain aspects that end up detracting from the spectacular work at the hardware level. The animations are not entirely polished, and it may seem that the terminal has a hard time executing actions when it is not reality. It is sad to comment that it is difficult for us to differentiate EMUI 9.0 from its previous versions, although there is still a lot of work ahead and Huawei is undoubtedly capable of improving what is already offered, it is clear that they could do better, at least at the level of transitions and simplicity of the menus.

The terminal has offered us some very good sensations, especially taking into account the proximity in time with a more than decent rival such as the iPhone XS Max or the Samsung Galaxy Note 9. We are clear that we have found ourselves before one of the best experiences to hardware level in Android to date, we are going to praise its positive points and show you what we liked the least about this Huawei Mate 20 Pro.

Worst

We start as always with the bad. As you have already read throughout the analysis, the point that has disappointed me the most about the terminal is Huawei's customization layer. I thought that in this new edition they would choose to let Android shine more, learning from mistakes as it happened with Samsung. However, Huawei continues to modify the transitions and certain sections of the terminal that do not seem congruent, an example is that the gesture navigation system becomes almost impossible to use, contrary to the bet of other firms.

The best

We have loved the hardware in general of the terminal, from its design, through the construction materials and obviously ending with the power offered by the combination of its GPU and its CPU. It is clear that the terminal does not lack reins to pull everything you throw at it. The same happens with the camera, offering an experience capable of innovating in a market where companies are struggling hard.
